Oh, that's right, because you've actually seen a maple boarded bongo?
BP(Sterling Ball) says it's a no go...so that's that. I'm perfectly happy with the standard issue Bongos, although I'll admit I was curious to see one of the ugly examples.
Ok ugly? Why would it be any uglier than a maple board on a ray?! Whatever, that sounds really closed minded to me. Especially considering the varied opinions on the bongos LOOKS in the first place. I would like to see one for myself and judge whether it's ugly or not. I seriously doubt it would be. Regardless, it's not all about looks. Crying out loud, they are making 6 string Bongo, or considering it? Personaly I think that will be ugly, let alone a waste of time, but it doesnt mean everybody will. They are shooting themselves in the foot, I would buy MORE bongos if they offered it with a maple board. I still want to see how hideous one would look with a maple board.
First of all, welcome to the forum Redblade. I understand what you are trying to say but BP and the fine folks at EBMM decide what options to offer and we are lucky to have so many to choose from. It just so happens that choosing a maple fretboard is not an option on the Bongo. Obviously you think it would look great and I think it might be pretty cool, but hey, it's not our company. I don't know, I think they've done a pretty good job of deciding what will and won't sell. Yet they still take risks and because of that we have the Bongo and soon the Bongo 6 and Sterling 5. You don't have to love or understand everything they make but damn if they don't do it better than anyone. Stick around and check out the Bongo 6 thread, we're all learning a bit about how they work their magic.
