Big difference between the 2H and the H-SC models. More on this as I explore the difference.

Nice Bongo, nice kid! Haha. Tell me, Sir Bovine, how interested has your son been about the bass guitar so far? Ya think he'll grow up to be a bass legend someday (buy him a miniBongo!)? :p

the bongo body isn't much shorter than your children :D
copyed from harmony-central

"These are opinions... Please don't bag on me if you disagree.

Before I took my hiatus from bass playing a few months ago, I made a trip over to Guitar Center and played around a bit. I played a Bongo 5 string. The neck is rigid and doesn't play smooth or fast. It the edges of the neck totally dig into the creases in your fingers and actually hurts after a while. I then picked up a Schecter Studio 5. Played like buttah and costs half as much. Now, I didn't plug in either of them but by playability alone I know not to get a Bongo. They had a Pedulla there that played real well too and fits your bill."

and

"Thosse bongos look cool but feel cheap. They are made of basswood. I'd get the Fender."

what do you answer on this? you agree with them?
isn't this just what kind of bass you like, but i wonder about the neck, is it slow and got edges that hurts your fingers?

S-bird:

Gosh, the tone of that post seems awfully familiar to me. There is an idiot that posts over on Talkbass who says nearly exactly the same things about the Bongo and frankly has his head completely up his anus. Anyone who would prefer a Korean Schecter over a USA Ernie Ball product has criteria about which I can't even guess.

The guy really pisses me off, so if you don't mind too much, I'm going to delete that post after a bit. I don't care if someone doesn't like the Bongo, but the things he writes are simply lies, and he is a troll. He enjoys stirring the pile, as it were. And:

1. "The neck is rigid and doesn't play smooth or fast." So what is preferable? A soft, shifting neck? See what I mean? It's nonsense. Smooth? Fast? Listen, I'm not The World's Smartest Bassist or anything, but I've owned USA Laklands, Modulus, pre-EB Stingrays, pre-CBS Fenders, and a slew of modern EBs and Fenders, including my current Custom Shop Jazz. The Bongo neck is as "smooth" and "fast" as any neck I've ever played.

This is simply trash talk about the painted neck. People forget that over the paint, there is a FINISH. So can you feel the paint on the neck? Think about it. Of course you can't. It feels like any other neck with a finish on it, because that's what it IS.

2. "...the edges of the neck totally dig into the creases in your fingers and actually hurts after a while." Given that I've played mine on three/four hour gigs, I suspect this fellow has a techique problem. Everyone here knows the QC reputation at EB. You think the "flagship" bass is going to be lower quality than the Stingrays and/or Sterlings? Of course not.

3. "I then picked up a Schecter Studio 5." Which is what I think this troll over at Talkbass actually owns.

4. "Thosse bongos look cool but feel cheap. They are made of basswood." This is another clue that this is my trolling pal from Talkbass - he knows nothing about wood, but has heard that if it's basswood, it's trash. Anyone here know the truth about the so-called "tone woods", specifically the Holy Duo of alder and ash? Leo used it because it was cheap and plentiful. Basswood is cheap and plentiful, too, but it isn't a "pretty" wood, but then again, it's under PAINT, so who cares? Basswood sounds GOOD.

And as far as the feel goes, I'd like to know how it "feels" cheap. Is it the tuners? The flawless finishes? The pickups? The other hardware? No. This guy also thinks the metal knobs on his Schecter equate to higher quality than plastic knobs. (My rather expensive Custom Shop Jazz bass has plastic knobs, by the way.)

So I've once again had to waste a bunch of time because of this asshat, whose nick over at Talkbass is "Mr Goody Good". I appreciate that you didn't know all this, by the way, so it isn't your fault at all nor am I miffed with you, and I don't mind answering questions that you guys have, but this phuquestick is just a troll and has no idea what he's talking about.

So....I don't want to delete your post without letting you know what's going on, so if you don't mind, I'll leave this up a bit so everyone can read it but I don't want this guy's fecal-droppings infecting this board if I can help it.

Cool to delete?

Thanks.

Jack

BTW, here are the reviews I found: Bongo Review

Don't waste anymore of your time writing rebuttals to this jerky's posts (folks w/brains will dismiss his findings immediately).

And get to work on your evaluation of the Bongo HH vs. HS configuration . . . please!

i dont think u should delete it...i mean this is a music man forum, and he is talking about what he tihnks about the bongo. Even if it is trash, its still his opinion and you dont know if he's just trying to be smart. What good is a music man forum if only one opinion can be voiced, especaily when were told we shouldnt post about much else.

he's just stateing his opinion, and good and bad opnions should be allowed. what if someone who had no idea about what a bongo was wanted to get pro's and con's about them.

he's not personaly bashing anyone, just saying that bongo's suck...which i disagre with, but he doesnt, and i'm sure more people have the same opinion as him.

Yeah, rigid necks suck - most bassists prefer pliable, soft necks :)

I agree tho - keep the post up. Thing is, offensive matter should be removed and those Bongos are like kids to one of our moderators ;)

Opinions; Everyone has an opinion,

I have read alot of things on this forum I disagree with or don't have any idea what's going on.
At the Dallas show I played the Bongo Derek is holding in the photo's I took. I have nothing but great reviews for it.
I ordered a Sterling Sub because it is just fine also. I collect antique fishing lures and other antiques so I spend my cash on those things, not basses. If you want to spend the money; DON'T HESITATE ON BUYING THE BONGO.
Never know I might some day.
Blessings

It's not a question of "repressing" an opinion. If one of you guys has a complaint or a bitch or a gripe about a bass you own or want to buy, fine.

My take on this is that this fellow is a troll. He thinks he knows a lot about certain things and continually proves his ignorance.

No sweat for me, though, I'll leave it up.

S-Bird was just quoting this guy, so he - The Troll In Question - isn't a member of the board.

Thus, no kicking out.

I say, if you have a question regarding playability of the Bongo, why don't you just ask the folks that actually own and play one regularly at actual gigs. There are more and more of us aquiring these AWESOME basses everyday. We'd be happy to answer any of your questions.

trolls!

I personally, think the bongo is a nice bass, just not my bag.

and I also personally think our grand host of bovine has an unhealthy obsession with trolls..

you said troll 7 times in one thread...plus you said asshat..

I'm sure i'll get a bongo eventually, when i got cash to spare...

Right now i really dig the simplicity of the stingray vs the versatility of the bongo. The ray's get me all the tones i could want and more, even my 2eq..

My perfect rig (that i own!)
M2000 amp
BBE sonic Maximizer
Behringer Virtualizer Pro (for reverb etc.....don't laugh!! it's awesome!)
Furman Pwr Conditioner w/lights..(pl plus)
2 Aguilar 2x12's
effects: odb-3, basswah, old school rat, bass phaser, tu-2 tuner.
a couple monster cables (free!)
2003 3eq rw stingray
1979 2ew maple stingray

toss in a strap and a few picks and I'm in Heaven (figuritively, not literally...)
