I am on the Bongo hunt, and as I have many basses with the H sweetspot, I think I want a HH or HS Bongo...more than likely HH.

It has to be the new tuners, as I've already waited a few years!

"Only one tone option?"

HAH!

Just you wait. You'll see.

Well, of course that even a single H Bongo can produce more tone options with 3 band EQ, ...but I was talkin' 'bout main sweetspot H tone!
I really have many gigs where play whole night with one "sound", ...some domestic "Country" party stuff...etc., ...I think You're got the picture now? ;)

Well, Yes...everyone should go with one HH Musicman bass in the stable! (or any dual pickup model)
I got my reflex 5 HH for more complicated gigs, with multi genre set list! ;)

OK, ...one more info and I'm done for a while, ...just tried Bongo 5 HH 2008. LE (gold hardware, nice Goldie-brown color) through Messa Walkabout combo, ...killer bass, ...but, when dialed with balance knob, ...I stuck in "about single H sweetspot position" , ...If You know what I mean?, ...treble and both mids flat, slight bass boost, and that was it! :)

I think I'd go for a single H, definitely! ;)

Order prediction: ...this Summer, ...I suppose?
All depends about value of my domestic currency/US dollar ratio, ...in Summer US$ drop a little bit over here, so I think it will be the perfect timing!

I'll report about my ordering progress when time comes!

Bye,

Keko

I wondered why do people choose less optionable guitar, when they can choose more optionable guitare :) It's a modern world god damn it :) hehe. At least, that's my oppinion :) If ''they'' told us here is guitar that has for example 10 options, why do you want only 3 of them , when you can have it all in one :)

Btw, I have bongo 5HS, and that's one hell of a piece of wood ;) I wouldn't trade it for anything. When I earn money for another guitar, that would be classic ray, and that's it. :)

Eno, ...my friend, ...I already own a modern multi-options Musicman bass (RX 5 HH) with 16 pickup switching options plus 4 band EQ, ...so I decided now for a sporty single H sweetspot Musicman, ...what's wrong with that?

Your way of thinking is OK when someone go for just one bass in the stable, ...but if You have two or more basses, why should all of them must have max. options?

I think You got the picture now? ;)

When I was young I wanted as many bells and whistles as I could get. Coil taps, phase switches, etc. etc. up the wazoo. I was really impressed with guitars that looked like this (not that I ever had one, but I did have a bunch of silly stuff to play with):

Over time I realized that most of the controls just don't get used much. Once set, I might as well have just glued 'em in place.

John Myung has his EQ set at the factory and his Bongos don't even have tone controls.

Simple is really really good if it gives you what you need. It becomes about playing the guitar, rather than operating its controls.

I have something like three sounds that I actually need. Of those, only two get used all the time.

Having just got the 4Hp Bongo, I totally understand what you are saying. The 4Hp compared to the 5HSp is totally different. Just for grins I measured the distance from the PG to the Bridge H on both and the 5 is 1" closer to the bridge. Did this for my own curiosity with all the talk about sweet spot! One thing you might consider is a Hp configuration, same sweet spot with the function of the piezo. There is something very unique with the combination of mag and piezo. The added benefit of this is that you also get the 4 band if you enjoy the mid range diversity. I do understand your wanting simplicity, you can not use the piezo and have benefit of the PU in the position you want. But the piezo is there for that unique sound if desired! Just say'n.........

I should have also asked "and why?".

I think the HH configuration has a little more versatility over the single H. With the extra string or low B, that versatility is extended even more. Also, with the Bongo 4H, there is just something cool about them. I have one and love it. It is my number 1 go to bass. I also have another Bongo on order that is a 4 Hp. I decided to add the Piezo to it just to have something slightly different that the other Bongo 4H but also, I used to have a guitar with a piezo in it and really liked it. With the Bongo 4H, it is somewhat of a rare beast but just has a certain soul to it that even makes it different from the Stingray and Sterling 4 H's. If you ever play one or own one you will know what I mean very quickly.

Agree with JD except the more versitility. If you know how to work the 3 band it does more than most basses... it isn't less versitle it is just different and takes a bit of a different mindset :)
