Bongo 5 or Stingray 5?

What should be a more important consideration is the choice of pup configuration, ok so there are some minor differences between the ray and bongo... but they still sound *very* similar in the same pup config.

Expand your collection and diversify (if it must really be all EBMM), I really like H and HH, but HS probably gives the widest range of tone imo.

I used mine at the weekend with a rock band,a wedding band doing swing tunes and with a country singer !!! this is the first bass i have ever owned that could do every type of gig i play.

How are the necks of the Ray5 vs. The Bongo 5? I used to have a 5 string Yamaha about 7 years ago and never liked it because of the huge neck. I want to have a 5 in the arsenal so I know a bigger neck is how it will have to be but is the Bongo a smaller neck or are they about the same? You guys have presented some nice arguments for each. My hangups are as follows:

Stingray 5: Nice tone (maybe not as versatile as the Bongo), more finish and natural wood grain options, classic looks
Cons: Heavier, perhaps less comfortable to play

Bongo: versatile tone, lighter weight, I've been told more ergonomical
Cons: Kind of ugly looking (IMHO), (I'll dodge the thrown objects from the Bongo fans), maybe too "hi-fi" sounding. I like good punchy sound but I want it to have some character and warmth not just clean ultra sterile sounding bass.

All I have to go by is what I've read in reviews and on here as well as my experience playing my Stingray 4's (which I love). As a result, my point of reference might be too limited. If my assessments of the Bongo's tone are incorrect please let me know. I respect the opinion of those who have actually played the instrument.

Price isn't really a breaking point because the Bongo is actually cheaper than the Ray5 with the finish I would like to get.

I also wanted to add that the bass will need to sound good on its own independent of any one particular amp. 90% of the time I am playing on someone else's rig because of a pre-establsihed backline so I rarely use my own rig. One of the things I love about the Ray 4's I have is that they sound great regardless of the amp I use and recording direct with my JDI and no seperate preamp sounds great too. I would assume the Bongo can perform in these circumstances like the Stingrays??

The post, wasn't intended to wound or offend... quite the opposite, it was meant in a joking manner, I even complimented his bongo. It was an attempt at blunt humour, objective humour about his obsessive devotion to your brand. The consensus is that I was out of line, so I will delete the post and pm him an apology.

I didn't know that fanboi was considered a slur and I do blame myself, because also didn't give myself any time to integrate and learn the ropes.

I am a recovering effects junkie. I was buying all these expensive boutque effects that I never use so I am going to sell them off to pay for the Bongo!

Doesn't the HH mean that it has 2 humbuckers? On MF, it is listed as a Bongo 5HH.

I figured as much. I kept trying to force them into songs and finally just quit using them all together. Believe it or not, I will be able to pay for the Bongo almost entirely by selling off my effects and the pedal board.
