Yeah, try a new set of strings. First place to start.

Good luck, let us know what you think.

if the string is floppy more tension is needed to fix it.. get a thicker string as it will require more tension to tune to the same note. 130 should be sufficient, but it will depend on what you consider floppy ;)

yeh i'm keeping it in standard tuning and everything. I also think it may need a truss rod adjustment b/c i'm getting a lot of buzzing all over the place. Now i'm wondering if going through bass central was such a good idea....

I've never personally dealt with Bass Central at all, but some of the guys here have and from what I've heard its a pretty good place. I'm sure if you call them and tell them your situation, I'm sure Beaver or someone else will help ya out or point you in the right direction. About the truss rod adjustment, if you've never done one before it would probably be best to take it to a tech and have him/her look at it. Truss rod adjustments are very easy to do on MM's but to someone who's never done them before they could be very intimidating. Depending on what frets your getting buzz on, you probably either need some relief in the neck or a slight bit of bow. Good luck.

Necks moving is like rain... it just happens (esp going from SLO to FLA to where ever you are). Doing a set up should help and there have been some pretty good guides to doing one floating around (just try a search). It is pretty intimidating the first time but is honestly a skill that is good to know (my first few set ups were horrible... but have gotten better each time I do one, plus they save a nice load of cash).

String tension is a personal taste... I know a ton of players that like a lot of "play" in their strings... I can't stand it so I have gone up a few gauges. Try a set of Power Slinks (it worked for me - I love them). If that doesn't work you can always buy individual B strings to your desired gauge (or try other brands but that isn't a discussion for here ;) )

 What does it coming from Bass Central have to do with anything? A bass shipped from Florida to somewhere else (in the Summer especially) is going to need an adjustment. Period.
