I have a Bongo 5 string bass. I am having issues with the tone:confused: I have tried everything I know but the sound is very harsh and sounds like it is trying to blow my speakers:eek: I use another bass also and do not have this problem, just hoping someone might have some ideas:eek:

Your Bongo has an 18-volt preamp as opposed to most active basses, which have a 9-volt preamp. Therefore it has the capability to, for lack of a better term, "put-out" more. Start with your EQ flat and don't dime the volume. 50-75% volume should be sufficient.

what brian was saying is that if your bongo is making your amp distort it is because the bass is overdriving you input of your amp. I fyou amp has a pad switch for active please engage. If not try it at 3/4 volume on the bass and if you are playing a bongo with all eq maxed out you have further boosted the output of your bass.....If that is the case then back down on your bass gain until the problem dissappears.

What Big Poppa said.

Turn the EQ flat on the Bongo with volume on full; and then set the preamp input on your amp to where it is just below clipping when you play your loudest note. Then adjust the master volume to the desired loudness.

It would help to know what kind of amp you're using, too, so we can more accurately assist you.

Welcome!

If the clip light is lighting up, turn the input volume down until it just stops clipping or barely clips on your loudest note: i.e. popping the g-string on high "E" or slapping the open low E. Then turn up the master volume on the output side to the desired setting.

I had a 1001RB for a while and even with the gain set just below clipping, it sounded pretty harsh. It sounded a little smoother with the input volume set a little lower and the output (woofer) level set higher.
