So I was getting ready to rehearse this evening at a local music store... they had an Ampeg 1x15" and 2x10" powered by a new SWR Working Pro head, I believe it was the 400... so after smirking at how much the limiter really squshed stuff when cranked I then when to just slap out a bit of a line and poof.... the amp lost power... no smoke and the fuse was fine but the amp never came back to operational  so please let this be a lesson to all of you (FMIC) SWR users out there :D

or maybe when you were picking the gain was close to being clipped. and when you went to a more precussive style. which the head wasnt ready for. You over powered it. or maybeyou didnt have you bass plugged in the port for active pickups.

I love how people think that if they add "in my opinion" to a phrase no matter how silly the phrase is, that it all of sudden makes things right in the world.

"Well...Your mom is a bloody whore.....in my opinion."

"Hey that hurts my feelings...."

"What? I said , IN MY OPINION."

I'm personally not a big fan of the workingmans swr stuff.

I think it's subpar while their X series amps are for the most part super cool. not my tone but cool none the less..

At least it wasn't your amp you blew up! :D

Tell them that the next time they see somebody with a Bongo they had better bring out the big guns. :)

ya, it was just weird, it's the first amp I've ever levelled! anywho, SWR stuff doesn't suck(just listen to any Neil Stubenhaus stuff) but I was shocked that it tanked like that ANYWHO , onward and upward gentlemen... right... gentlemen....

I've blown up a Workingman 15 :D - they (the workingman series) just doesn't have enough headroom to handle an 18v bass effectively (I was using a Kubicki ExFactor at the time) - I am currently playing Silverado Specials and don't have too much of a problem with them (the usual love-hate relationship with an amp) - good tone and good power.

I've had to back my gain off and roll off the bass almost flat in some situations to keep preamps from clipping in the studio.
The bongo can be an amp killer, you just have to learn to tame it.
I think an internal trim pot on the out put level would be a good idea!

I've never used any of SWR's amps, but I love their cabs. What are you running normally?

ive blown a mesa with my stingray and returned it for an svt classic ...

i dont know much about how amps work etc but I was wondering if tube amps are harder to "overwhelm" ... making them harder to blow up? anyone with some amp/tech knowledge got the answer?
