I've never used any of SWR's amps, but I love their cabs. What are you running normally?

ahh... in constant flux it seems, right now I've got a home made tube pre going into a Crown XLS402 and then into a GK Neo212 but right now I'm sniffing around the Mark Bass and Eden stuff(again)

ive blown a mesa with my stingray and returned it for an svt classic ...

i dont know much about how amps work etc but I was wondering if tube amps are harder to "overwhelm" ... making them harder to blow up? anyone with some amp/tech knowledge got the answer?

My guess is that tube amps are more robust in clipping between the pre/power stages. I would expect that just like tube power stages clip softly when overdriven, the driver section would clip softly as well when overloaded by an input. So I would expect just like tube power stages can be kinder to your speakers, a tube driver stage would be kinder to your power stage. Most good SS should have a designed amount of headroom to account for various inputs but when you start changing the game to include 18V preamps... well, you know...

This is all an educated guess from messing around with stereo equipment for the last 2 decades. Could be utter steer dung. Then again, it does sound good doesn't it?

Good luck with Mark Bass... I was interested, but I haven't been able to locate a dealer in the States and my inquiries via their website went unanswered.
