With my current band boring the pants off me (same classic rock stuff I've been playing for 5 or 6 years), last week I auditioned for a new band that are doing something very interesting and fun. Because of the genre, I played it safe at the audition with a more conventional looking bass, but now that I've got the gig I'm ready to unleash the Bongo on them at my first rehearsal :D

Now, here's the fun part - this band is a tribute/show of 70s and 80s "hair rock" - Van Halen, Aerosmith, Deep Purple, Guns & Roses, Toto, Warrant, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi etc. Yes, I know what you're thinking - wigs, spandex and eyeliner will be required. I'm really looking forward to playing in this band! :D:D:D

Now comes the difficult part - letting my current band know that I'm leaving :(

Always hard to leave a band behind, but if you are following your interest more power to you and congrats (the Bongo should fit in VERY well with an 70/80s band).

Keep us posted with how it goes.

Wow - awesome!

Wigs, spandex and eyeliner - oh my!

Really sounds like fun - and I can't wait to see the pics from your first shows. :)

I hate to say it, but dump the Bongo for a BC RICH or Charvel bass.;)

That is unless Bongos will be made in hot pink or lime green..

Sounds like a fun gig though! Have fun. I played a lot of that stuff on a Bongo 5 and it worked perfectly...

great news Mark. In terms of what to say here's a few ideas:
It's not you it's me.
I just want to be Friends.
I'm leaving the country and don't know when I'll back.
I'm pregnant...

I thought this WAS "classic rock"?!? I guess I must be younger than I thought.
Cheers Mark!

:D

Down here, we describe "classic rock" as more Top 40 oriented rock, from anywhere between the 60s and 90s, rather than the true hair band stuff. I suppose I would describe the above bands as "heavy rock" rather than classic rock. It's one of those "you say potato, I say banana" kind of things.
