I know, I know, I know... I should be practicing

However I got a new pickguard in a trade with member 57fenderjazz (great guy) and couldn't resist doing a few pics

Which do you prefer, the black ice or the pearl white?

The flash seems to be creating some purple in the body paint for the black ice shot which doesn't quite does the combo justice.

I like both.

One is a clear contrast, the other a subtler mix.

Well I am in the same situation, I have exactly the same sapphire black bass with both a black ice and white ice pickguards, and I like them both with no preference, what I have resulted in doing is to swap them every few months, just like... well what colour tie shall I wear, :) Its nice to be able to change the look of it every now and then.

True - Sapphire black is an interesting color. It has some Dargie II color change properties - but not as dramatic. Check out some of these shots of the same bass with the same camera...

Black ice is more bada$$, white pearl will show up better on stage.

I voted white.

If you gig, being seen is a good thing IMHO. Watch concert footage or a live band sometime.... It always frustrates me when the bass player (who never has a bright light on him) has a bass so dark I can't even tell what kind it is. Not that it matters to the music, but I like to see what gear others use.

Show off your Bongo. Draw attention to it. That way we get more people to join our creepy cult.

So what's your opinion as to a different pickguard for the DDII HHp 5'er that should be showing up at my house next week... I'm thinking abalone, but the Dargie's seem so stand out by themselves... I don't know what to do. I'm confused & sitting in a large pool of my own drool...

Just my $0.02: Go for contrast. A dark guard on a bright bass and vice versa.

See how the contrasting guard makes the bass "pop?"

(shameless excuse to post more Bongo photos) :D:D:D

My thoughts exactly.

I voted for white pearloid.

I've always felt the pickguard should contrast the body as well as the bridge humbucker to enhance that classic MM p/g shape and bridge humbucker.

Thanks for the feedback - its neck & neck

wow - everyone wants me to stand out :D or at least the bass

Personally, up close I love the black ice

From afar I get the contrast argument

I think I'll change it depending on my wardrobe

Good to see the old girl! I was never thrilled with the Black Ice when I had her, but white seemed like too much of a contrast, so I left it as-is. I vote for black!

Hmmm..I am starting to like the white pearloid on the black sapphire a lot. I ordered my Bongo with a black pearloid pickguard. But this looks like it can be easily changed.
