Hello... I hope this new member question finds all of you well !! I believe my beloved Bongo has a input ground wire disconnected. The thing is, it really doesn't affect it that much. Just every now and then, I'll get a nice "BUZZ", so I'll usually just re-adjust, or wiggle the jack at the input, and it'll go away. The input jack -from the outside- has never come loose requiring any sort of tightening, so I'm not sure how it would have come off? But, after opening the back cover and exposing the the wiring, you can see (pics attached) there is a ground that looks as if it has come apart from a solder joint on the jack.

Question: Does this need to be re-soldered back, and if so where? It so short it really only looks like it'll reach one spot. I don't want to make anything worse, - it's my everyday player and I have a lot of work coming up soon. Couldn't find a schematic for this part of the wiring so I figured I'd ask here.

Thanks in advance !

Jimmy

That wire was never connected to the jack. Its job is connecting the cavity cover to the conductive paint on the cavity wall, to create a fully surrounding shielding against RF noise.

It used to reside in that little groove on the edge of the cavity. To be sure of a good pressure contact with the cover, forget that groove and set the wire right next to the groove. OR, if its long enough, put the tip of it into the screw hole for a really great connection.

Be aware, this is not a grounding issue. Its a shielding issue. When your shieding is incomplete (no connection to the cover) you can get RF noise, usually broadcasting from nearby electronics (your amp) or from stage lighting, neon lights, etc etc. Such noise will vary with the distance and positioning of your ax relative to the RF source.
