So I read the article where John Myung talks about the fact that he had his 6 string bongo modded so its neck was closer to a 5 er neck. Are all new bongos using this neck dimension or is that only Myungs basses. Essentially just wondering if the 6 er is based off of what John Myung wants or if it will always be the same or if there will be an option available or if only Myung has that option.

I am interested in it mostly cause I don't have spider hands like he does and having a thinner 6 er would be killer for me.

I'm pretty sure that Bongo 6's will continue using the current spacing, and unless they make a Myung Signature I wouldn't hold out on a 6'er with a thinner neck I'm afraid :(

IIRC, EBMM policy is that there are NO 'Artiste Signature' models
of their basses ... only of their geetars ... available for retail sale.

Hey BP,

I know there are no sig basses by EBMM but have you ever thought of making a custom bass to be sold in mass production and have the procedes go to the Casey Lee Ball Foundation? If one is ever made, put me down for at least one!

I don't have big hands, but the Bongo 6 is extremely playable to me. So much so that I could just as well have 6'ers instead of my 5'ers. If I had any use for those high notes, which I haven't:)

Hope this forum doesn't mind me asking, but what do you reckon the string spacing is on JMX's custom bongo? Looks super tight! (the spacing, that is..)

We play Bass - not Bass Guitar :)

The idea is not to wail on the High C like you are playing guitar. I am not saying you are, but many people are very ignorant of the fact that having that extra string allows you to play some things a lot easier.

Also why is everyone so opposed to playing some high notes. Just because it is a bass guitar why should it be confined to the E an A strings? I'm over exaggerating but the bass is first and foremost a musical instrument separate from the guitar. Sure many times people are playing bass with guitar. Ever listened to jazz? Quite a lot of jazz does not have a guitarist involved.

I happen to like jazz but more so I happen to LOVE progressive music. Quite a few progressive bassists I've heard either have a 6 string or they play up higher quite a bit. I actually use that High C quite a bit and it does not cross over with the guitar often if EVER. Just allows for ease of play and the sound of a bass up at the higher frets can get kind of pingy for lack of a better word to describe it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not mad I just don't understand comments like "you play BASS not guitar." In that case I'll buy a vampire bass and I'll drone all over the super low F for every song. To each his own I guess though.

Yes I can be quite sarcastic and over exaggerative. :p

P.S. - A musicman 6 string is a revelation to the world. We also just got really lucky in the fact that it happened to be a bongo.

If you don't like high notes then don't play above the 7th fret. LOL

Bongo 6 is an easy 6 stringer to play.

I had a wonderful 6, a TRB fretless. It had a terrific
sound that the TRB 5 does not quite have, which I'm
left to believe derives from that extra load of lumber
in the 6-string [TRBs are all 19mm, 4- thru 6-string].

However, in the end I parted with it cuz I just got so
fed up with always having to reach across that extra
string course to get to the strings I REALLY use/need.

Especially for FL, staying with the longer note spacing
of the money zone is a good thing [intonation-wise],
but I found the C-string to be more of a hurdle than a
help ... and this was a supremely playable ax [for a 6].
