I've heard radio transmissions through prevous amps, a la Spinal Tap.
And my missus & I have an understanding - no contact on rehearsal night. I switch on & check it regularly, in case of emergency (kids etc).
That said, if you want to keep yours switched on & avoid that terrible noise (which you don't hear when playing
), then maybe put the phone in the car, then go & flip it there in case you miss your check-in call.
