Help! Bongo Pre-amp Question

Got a problem with my pre-amp the other day.

The first time I plug it in after a while (been playing guitar), the sound is very distorted. It's like playing through a very bad distortion pedal. Also, I have to turn the volume knob all the way up (literally) to get any sound. Any lower and I don't get any sound at all. When I twitch around the volume knob at the off position, I get buzzing noise.

I tried changing the batteries and everything's fine again. I just want to make sure its actually the battery. Worried it might be a serious problem and changing the batteries is only a temporary solution.

Nope. That's exactly how they'll behave with a battery that's almost dead.

I don't think its the bent connections. Guess it must be the batteries then. Thanks guys.

The bass is guaranteed to display the same behavior again, once the batteries die… about a year or so from now.
