Bongo single H?

Hey,

Anyone played a single H Bongo yet? The pickup looks to be in the "StingRay position". I am curious if it sounds like a StingRay.

My dream Bongo:

Bongo 5
single H
unlined fretless
piezo bridge
medallion gold
white pearloid

no not yet but.... I might be out your way in early July playing for a guy called Brian Doerksen and if we are in the Ottawa area we should try to hook up at soundcheck, I should have my dual H Bongo fretless by then and you'd be more than welcome to give it a whirl.

You are playing for "a guy called Brian Doerksen"? THE BRIAN DOERKSEN? Man, our praise team does a TON of his stuff! Great anointed music - very sensitive to the Holy Spirit. How did you get hooked up with him?

Spent an hour and a half or so playing around with one today. For a single H it is very impressive. You can, for the most part get the classic Ray sound, but it is... how to describe it... "thicker" - it has some more low end balls to it for lack of a better term. Playability is awsome... esp for slappers. I would go for the dual pickup model myself (I love neck pickup tone - and there is nothing like a classic Ray sound with the neck pickup suppling some supporting bottom end) - but the single H is VERY and I mean VERY respectable!:D
 
I just don't understand why they only put a threee band in the single humbucker version. :confused:

I've gota dual humbucker 5 string and I've got a sc/h 5 string fretless on the way (due in July).

If they had the 4 band on the single humbucker version, I'd probably buy a 4 string just to have all three options. But, with only a 3 band, what's the point?:mad:

I guess I should be glad I don't have to buy yet another Bongo. ...:cool:

Well, maybe it doesn't need it... I know I personally am not interested in the variety of tones that the 2 pickup basses put out. All I've wanted for the past 15 years is the awesome trademark Music Man tone. The 4 band might be overkill in this case -- it sounds like the single H Bongo has "the sound, plus" even with just the 3 band.

I can see that for the 2 pickup Bongos that maybe the 4 band allows you to blend the 2 pickups more effectively.

So it's a single H for me. However, I'm going to go for the piezo bridge. You get the 4 band with the HP. I was saving for a SR5+P. But every day my desire for the Bongo grows stronger. :D

Wait--so, if you get teh single humbucker and the piezo, it has the 4 band preamp? Uh oh. Bothof my 5 strings have the piezos, so I'd have to get that with the 4 string single humbucker, too.

Ah, crap. Thanks a lot--you just cost me about $1200. :mad:

My goodness! The only reason why I dumped the Bongo as a future weapon in my arsenal was because it did not like my form of slapping! But what's this? A single H Bongo with piezo and a 4 band EQ? Count me in!

Honestly, I haven't priced them. I'm sure there is an upcharge for the piezo. I've got a good relationship with my GC salesman, so I'm sure I'd get a pretty good deal. Heck--I got a SC/H/P 5 string fretless Bongo for just under $1400 before tax, so I can't imagine that a 4 string H/P would be much more than $1200 if you know how to wheel and deal, though.

One Bongo on the way is enough at a time, I think.

I think the "standard" up charge is between $400-$450. Like everything else, it is negotiable with your dealer.
 
You don't really see the piezo option much on the Bongos, do you? I checked out Bass Central and they only had one Bongo of each string config available. I'm wondering... How about the HHP setup? The MusicMan website has some schematic diagrams for such a config, but I haven't seen that yet. Anyone got the "down low"? I'm so hip.

I've got the H/H/P setup in my current 5 string Bongo, and my fretless 5 string will have sc/h/p when it shows up in July.

I've been recording some sound samples, but I won't be able to get them on the computer until after my girlfriend's mom leaves tomorrow. Hopefully, they'll be up by the end of the week. :cool:
