Didn't get any decent Canadian footage of Live8 here in the UK, but on the Hip's website there were links to some photos and amongst them I discovered this:

Mr. Sinclair practising backstage with a Bongo. After searching the forums I found a thread from Jon stating that they had built him one, but didn't find much else. Though I am still curious to know why he is messing about on one backstage and yet appears to be playing 'inferior' product ON stage? Perhaps he played the Bongo for other songs which weren't photographed. ONE DAY I will see them live. Was too damned hard to get tickets see them while I lived in Kingston/Toronto, but hopefully they will play the UK sometime and I will be able to score some as they appear to be relatively unknown in these parts :)

Gord Sinclair was featured in a previous Bongo siting in the spring of 05.

He uses some other basses but still gets the bongo on stage for certain songs in the set

“’I’ve been on the Bongo for about six months now and have really enjoyed the experience,” said the group’s bass player Gord Sinclair. He was first introduced to the Bongo in November 2004. It was then that Sinclair picked up his specially-created Bongo bass, with 45-100 Super Slinky bass strings, during a sound check and experienced love at first sound, taking the guitar on-stage with him at that night’s sold-out London Ontario performance.
“I was at first drawn to the unusual shape, like most are, but then I plugged it in. WOW!” Sinclair said. “I play a lot of upper register melodic lines while droning open ‘E’ or drop ‘D’ and the Bongo offers a real clarity and precision cut that you don’t find in a lot of bass guitars. I’ve always loved the good folks at Ernie Ball and their fine products. They always get it right.”
