Hi again.

I've spent the whole weekend playing and listening to my new Bongo and today I decided to record some sound clips with different settings for you MM owners to hear. By clicking on the YouSendIt link below, you'll download a .zip file with several recordings of my Bongo plus a pdf file explaining what I did (please read it first).

I'm still messing with the action (the saddles, not the truss rod - the neck is OK, according to the "Gary Willis Test"), so that's why the fret buzz is noticeable. I think (please correct me if I'm wrong) that the only way to get zero buzz from a bass is:

1. Set the action sooo high and/or
2. Play with a very light touch

So my basses always buzz, but I think there's a limit in which that buzzing is acceptable: If it isn't noticeable when playing with a band. Maybe in these recordings the buzz is more noticeable than I'd like (I'm not sure), so please let me know how "annoying" is the fret buzz in these recordings to you.

This YouSendIt link will be available for the next seven days only and for a limited number of downloads (I don't know how many). Please let me know when it doesn't work anymore, so I'll repost it. Or does anybody know where to host the file? I have a Geocities website, but I can't upload it there.

Hope you enjoy this stuff and find it useful, folks. I highly appreciate your opinions.

This is a repost (same file, but not the same link I sent to TalkBass)

It's the theme from the old Charlie Brown cartoons.

First, thanks for the effort! I've gone through your clips and it's a great example of how versatile the Bongo is! I've got a fretless on the way with the same pickup configuration, so this was very interesting to me. :)

As far as the set-up, it is completely subjective and different for everyone. Search this forum - there are lots of great tips. A recent, personal example can be found right here. In the end, it has to feel right to/for you.

"Annoying" is too strong a word, though the buzz is a bit too much for my tastes. Seems more noticeable with the piezos. I try to avoid any buzz in my set-up... Just me. On the other hand, my style of play results in a lot of fret "snap" which can be more of a bother to some than a bit of buzz. To each his own! :)

Now I am off to practice - thanks for the inspiration! Linus & Lucy here I come! ;)

Hey, Adelucia, thank you for the link to your thread. Very interesting and useful! I've just subscribed. BTW, I see in your signature that you ordered a single coil/humbucker Bongo, right? Mine is double humbucker. Maybe yours will sound different (I mean, aside from being fretless).
