zinky blue velvet should be able to get you to most places you need to go.....at bedroom levels.. :D

That looks interesting. For some reason when I saw the Zinky amp I immediately thought of Derek Sherinian

i'm a big fan of LINE 6! In my honest opinion the Veta or Flex Tone is sweet! However, VOX is pretty sweet as well... And.... So is Mesa, and Carvin! Looks like you've got some choice to make! Let us know what direction you go!

Thanks guys...they were able to repair that thing. According to the tech, the bias circuit fried when a power tube failed buring up a resistor & zener diode. They were able to replace those parts, clean the PCB and install all new tubes for $300 out the door. Decent price imo.

While the Mesa was in the shop I played on a borrowed Flextone II for a couple weeks. I've warmed up to this thing and hope to buy a Flextone III soon.

Last night during a break my 1990 Boogie Mk3 combo spew forth flames from the chassis...followed by an impressive cloud of smoke. This amp was well cared for & recently retubed.

I play primarily at bedroom levels in a high gain mode. Anyone have any ideas about another amp that will scream like the boogie does at low volume levels? I'm going to check out a Vetta 2 this afternoon.

Speaking as someone who has burned a boogie before (specifically my beloved MK IV) it really wasn't that expensive to repair and now sounds as good as it ever did. Of course, if the fire lasted a bit rather than going out there could be a completely different story involved. Personaly experience though, if you like and want a boogie sound get another boogie.

Also, sorry to hear about the flames! Everone knows though that Boogies are hot! :D

Hey guys... thanks for the tips :)

I just got back from trying the Vetta II with my Morse. Overall a fun toy, the Morse really shines with this amp but I dont use effects that much. In the end this thing would be obsolete in 5 years like my synthesizers. I only had time to try 1 amp out (lunch hour) so I'm going back tomorrow.

Mesa Mark IV: I wish I could find one in Dallas.. still looking. The Lonestar Special looks interesting; Im trying that tomorrow. If Mesa would do a re-issue Mark II C+, I'd buy one today. I'm not really into these new Mesas with all the switches like the Lone Star, Road King, Dual Rectos. I prefer the older, simpler designs.

Thanks for the tip on the Rivera... I'll look for that too. Probably will stay away from digital and SS amps.

I always retubed with Mesa tubes :(

The lonestar Special is sweet! Then again, so is the Lonestar. I doubt that Mesa will ever reissue the MK II, however there is a MK I reissue out there. Very simple amp and a nice sound. Personally though, I think the MK IV is probably the most versitle and best sounding combo they ever built.

Get a used Mark 3 red stripe, and save the money on a BS 2C+...
The M3 can nail the exact tone... Trust me I have both.

I have to second that opinion. The MKIII's could always do anything the MKII's could just as well. A lot of the IIc+ mystique is more myth than reality. They were great sounding amps, but then again so are the III's.
