Finally bought a stingray. I bought robertb's orange firemist stingray 4. I've always wanted a stingray, and am glad i finally got one. It should be here wednesday, just in time for band practice. I'll let everyone know how it works out. I've used only passive basses in the past. Is it best to set the amp flat, and control the eq from the bass?

congrats man, youll love it. and im no expert but thats what i like to do, i set the amp flat then adjust the tone with the bass. just make sure you plug into the right input, some amps have separate active and passive inputs.

It's about time someone bought that thing.

Amen to that! :)
Thanks again Mike. I'll email you the TPB pics.
And thanks to our gracious host (BP) for the priviledge of buying/selling stuff here. I've done it a few times before, and in addition to the convenience factor, inter-forumite deals are very cool. Knowing where it's going, who it's going to, and getting to hear about what the instrument's up to from time to time.

Enjoy, Mike! Eager to hear your impressions.

Congrats on the SR. Your gonna love it, and your bandmates are going to
say, why did'nt you get one of these sooner!

And your amp is going to say, what in the heck is this bass!

Congrats! I bought my first Stingray a month ago and I'm lovin' it!

I use the eq on my amp to balance the sound to the room I'm playing in, I use the eq on the bass to obtain different tones, i.e. rolling the treble back and boosting bass to get a reggae sound or boosting bass and treble to get a good slap sound etc.

I was in the exact same situation over a year ago, I bought an orange bass from RobertB and it was my first Music Man. Love it to bits, as will you.

Roberts a great guy too.

Thanks Zak, pre-she-ate that! Well, orange and red in your case. But very similar spirts indeed, those 2 basses.

No problem man. Do you remember exactly how long I've had that bass now? I can't remember when I bought it, but I'm assuming it was over a year ago.

U sent me the paypal payment on 01/10/2008. So with shipping & customs time, I guess you've had it since late Jan, early Feb '08? But we're hijacking!

Congratulations! I remember the TPB pics... they were the first to show what a fine colour Orange Firemist is. The combination with the vintage white pearl pickguard and the maple neck is so simple and classic, yet fancy and modern at the same time.

And yes, Robert's just a great guy.

I think I also bought some reddish bass from him... ;)

Thanks Oli. I knew when we met here, and anguished over figured maple necks and tops together, that it was the beginning of a beautiful bro-mance. And every time I think about it, I'm left pondering ... "now, why the F*@! did I sell my 30th??". :)
