Hi, I'm a beginner guitarist, as in I just bought my first guitar a few days ago.

I bought a SUB Silo 3 from an online retailer, and I had a few questions regarding this guitar.

(1) There is a slight buzz on the lower E string. Is this something that I can just adjust myself and fix? Is this common when getting a brand new guitar?

(2) What kind of strings does the guitar come with?

(3) Are these strings categorized as light or medium or heavy?

(4) Is it advisable to immediately put a better set of strings on this particular guitar, or are the ones that it comes with more than good enough?

Thanks in advance for any replies

Welcome to the site and beginning guitar. Let me start by saying you probably got the best starter guitar on the market. For this last Christmas, I bought my youngest son the exact guitar you have in white. With the buzz you are having, the truss rod wheel at the base of the neck should take care of that for you but first let me tell you to try something else first because it answers your other questions. The strings are not Ernie Ball, like the ones that come on other Sterling by Music Man guitars or Music Man guitars. That was done to help keep the cost low so the first thing I did was swap them out with some Ernie Ball Super Slinky's. They are 9's or I believe considered lights but am not sure on that last part? They may also be considered as extra lights too? I know they are not medium or heavy strings though. Anyway, after you swap out the strings, once the guitar is in tune, if it is still buzzing, relieve the neck about 1/8 to 1/4 of a turn counter clockwise or of you have the body of the guitar in your hands and you are looking towards the headstock, if you imagine the wheel as a clock, turn it to the left. By adjusting the truss wheel, that should take care of the buzz for you. Don't adjust the bridge. If you are still having issues after that, then contact the Sterling by Music Man customer service. Like Music Man customer service, they too are great to deal with and will help you out.

Thanks a lot for the great and detailed reply.

You've basically answered everything that I was wondering about. I will be replacing the strings and I will also try the small adjustments that you mentioned if there is still a buzz. It wasn't a loud buzz, just a faint buzz.

And even though I've only had the guitar for a short time, I do like it a lot, it looks nice and seems well built. I got the red one. I see that you have the white one in your sig.

Thanks once again.

A little buzz is rarely a problem. If it's not intrusive when playing music I don't worry about at all. And remember, we get hyper-sensitive to little noises and buzzes when doing a setup. Don't chase perfection, because it doesn't exist. Different players will have different of string buzz even on the exact same guitar. How we play, pick attack, angle, material, thickness, and how hard we play all have a role.
