Hi BP,
I was listening to "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" today and was enjoying Dee's bass lines. What a player! Did you guys have any connection with Dee? I know Bob Birch has been a long time EB user who is also amazing, I've seen Elton a bunch of times, just curious.
Take Care,
Brent

GYBR is the very first album I bought with my own money as a kid-

There is some RIDICULOUS bass on that album! "Grey Seal" just kills, not to mention "Love Lies Bleeding".

Funky Chicken, showin' his age.

The late great Dee Murray was a guitarist turned bass player who predominantly played F***r basses. He also had a period where he played S*********r (those headless things) basses both live and in the studio, an example being the song "I'm Still Standing."
Dee Murray had the creativity and ability to create bass lines that appeared busy yet never seemed to get in the way while at the same time adding something so memorable that you really can't imagine those songs without them. Let's also not forget that he, guitarist Davey Johnstone and drummer Nigel Olsson did FABULOUS harmony vocals. WHAT A BAND!
McCartney was also a guitarist turned bass player. Hmmm...maybe I should have started out on guitar first instead of drums.

Not to sure of any EB/MM link up I remember that Dee was also a big fan and player of G&L basses, great bass player he was for sure.

Absolutely. The "Classic Album" DVD of GYBR is fantastic. On the DVD the guys claim they had never sung harmonies before, and Elton basically left them alone for a couple of days and said something like "you guys come up with some backing vocals on these songs while I'm gone"

I think Dee is hugely under-rated because I think he crafted the perfect bass lines for the songs.

And GYBR is one of the best albums ever made...a must have!

I'm glad others appreciate his work. I love the bass playing on that album
