I mention this, because you're a guy who's willing to experiment and find new, better ways of doing things.

Some people here have written about Kinmans in the past. So, I figured I'd check it out, because I didn't know a thing about them. It seems like this guy has some good ideas with regards to pickup design. At least, he presents himself like he really knows what he's doing.

He has a couple of different, interesting, pre-wired switching systems that one can get. Some of these diagrams remind me of some of the options available on EBMMs with the 5-position switch.

Check out these wiring diagrams. They feature a blend control (the second tone knob) that allow the addition of a pickup. One of these diagrams shows the option of getting the bridge and middle (of an SSS configuration) in series. There's also an option for all three coils at once.
This is the K9, which gives you that combination with the 2 coils in series: http://www.kinman.com/images/inside/ourProducts/K9StratFunction.pdf
This is the K7, which doesn't have that combination, but it still seems cool: http://www.kinman.com/images/inside/ourProducts/K7selections.pdf

Here is the link to his introductory page. Tele, Fender, noiseless single coil guitar pickups

It seems a bit more complicated than the system EBMM already gives us (with stunning results), but you know, it seems interesting and worth a quick look, especially for SSS guitars.

I've used similar wiring schemes before- Bill Lawrence has something he calls "Jimi Hendrix wiring" on his site (which I guess Jimi used) which is a blend pot tied to the middle p'up. Gives you some cool variations.

I asked BP about other pickup vendors at the Open House- he seemed really happy about his relationship with DiMarzio. I gather those guys go the extra mile to give MM what they need and are a good supplier.

Yeah. I'm happy with what EBMM and DiMarzio do together. I just thought what Kinman was doing was interesting. I thought maybe if EBMM developed something like this, it might be cool. Not suggesting that EBMM go and start putting Kinmans in everything.

Hey folks,
both my Silhouette Specials have been equipped with Chris Kinman's PUs and I'm a HUUUUGE fan of his since first trying them out. Of course again it was Mick who introduced me, but as usual he was absolutely right with his descriptions and recommendations.
There's nothing negative to the stock DiMarzios in the EBMM guitars, but I'm just in love with the Kinmans. Superb tone and definition and abso-fawking-lutely quiet even with huy-gayn...
Nevertheless from what I've read here there is a superb collaboration between EBMM and DiMarzio which is very satisfying for both.
...and boys - who would dare to say stock EBMMs aren't great ?! ;)
My humble 2 cents...

Kinman and DiMarzio had legal issues in the past concerning the pickup design in terms of patents. For years you couldn´t buy a Kinman pickups in the US but online.
Kinman now has a Us patent and everything is fine.

Just as a little information for all you in the buisness;-)

His pickups may be ok, but I know him and he reminds me of a certain person that used to hang here. Remember the guy that licked basses? ;)

Kinmans are cool, but the Dimarzio "Area" pickups are (IMHO) even sweeter-sounding, and cheaper.
