Just got back from Detroit. What a great clinic/conversation/lunch (as BP put it).

The 25th Anniversary tour had a stop at Guitar Center in Detroit today (or rather, yesterday). BP moderated a clinic/discussion.

The playing was ridiculous. It was fun, informal jamming, and Steve and Luke played bits of different pieces and every now and again the band would rip into something and let Steve and Luke rip it up. They played a great medley of "My Girl"/"Mercy Mercy Mercy" and finally brought the house down with version of "Treat Her Right." BP can get DOWN on a bass guitar. Steve and Luke both played their own models, done in True Gold with the rosewood neck option. Luke played the 25th as well, and BP rocked a Bongo. Jeff Ferraro, who played with Larry Carlton (among others) held it down on the drums.

The discussion part was equally entertaining and educational. BP spoke about 25 years in the business with his family (a large one, nuclear and otherwise), the genius of Dudley Gimpel, influences, the business of music, and a whole host of other topics. Steve and Luke shared some wisdom about work ethic, playing rhythm guitar, and shared hilarious stories about everything from their first bands to behind-the-scenes absurdity.

The star of the show? The 25th anniversary guitar. Luke plugged that thing into a Marshall and let loose. I know you all have seen it and know how good it looks. I cannot possibly communicate how good that guitar sounds. Whoooooo. If the 25th anniversary tour comes anywhere near you, go. You all have GOT to hear one played, and then play one yourself. I got there early enough to check out a JP(RW), Luke(RW) and the 25th.

Everyone hung out to sign stuff and pose for photos after. The crowd as decent sized despite the Redwings playing at home in the playoffs.

A very cool event indeed.

Thanks for the report Mattew.
I'm really sad I missed it.
Car troubles stopped me from going. I tried to get a ride with someone else, but it didn't happen. :(

Hey BP, You all ready and pumped for the Hollywood Clinic this Sunday? Can't wait!

Which reminds me, is there a particular title you prefer to be addressed by? Mr. Ball? Mr. Sterling Ball?

Sorry, I had to ask, its kind of a force of habit. Traditional Korean Mannerisms.

I very much wish I could have been there...Shadowbox was very kind to ask me if I wanted to go, I just had too much going on at work to take any time off.
