If you want to post a photo of you top go for it

OK. This isn't a BFR, or even an upgraded top, just my plain old Y2D. I think it has an awesome quilt. (I took the picture with a seven year old Sony 2.1 megapix camera.)

now to show the new calm me....(ive been studying the Sony Forum for tips, thanks Jeffrey)

Tops are subjective....its a bitch one mans 10 top leaves another unimpressed.

Lets try to make a deal with you guys out there.......

If you see a BFR that we post a photo from our factory and you think it is substandard:

1. Let us know about it and we will get a consensus (impossible!)
2. Please dont buy it....It just might make someone else happy though. Win Win you dont have to buy it and somebody is happy! THere are many players out there that love their flame JP's....some critics are on written record saying that we shouldnt offer them.

peoples' reactions often amaze me. not just regarding this but any product (like the iPhone for example). nobody is forcing anyone to buy anything. why the uproar? dont buy it... you'll either be happy you didnt or in a little while you might personally experience the product (not just online reviews or pix) and may realize you were misinformed and will have a change of heart.

ive seen a few BFRs in person. some at NAMM and one at a GC and they looked awesome to me.

i also reference trusted source for pix etc... like jack & pete. i mean, it is what it is but i never understand

It's not a letdown by any means, hence the ;).

The top is perfect.

I was in Cosmo music today, they stock a good amount of Suhr, PRS, and EBMM. They even have one of the $25,000 EVH guitars on the wall.

Anyway, I was comparing the top on my BFR (which they loved, have a few on order since NAMM) to the 10 top PRS's there, and none came close to the flame on mine. They had no quilt 10 tops, only flame, so it was an easy comparison.

People are hard to please, and people get jealous. Many people can't afford certain things, so they resort to this unfortunately.

USA, for now, but a Brit at heart
I must be missing something here. I feel like I just walked into a theatre halfway thru the movie.
Who the heck is sevenstring.com anyway? Never heard of em.
I heard of the gear page and harmony central, but not them.
Now i really feel bad about my post about my bfr luke flame top. BP, I now fully understand what you meant when you said how these figured maple tops can be a pain in the arse. Clearly personal preference plays a BIG part of how each and every top is received. I am just one example. i wouldn't have known a quality top if someone thru it out a window and it hit me in the head.
Anyway, just to show you all ( not that it matters or that you need to be shown) that EBMM is greatly appreciated elsewhere outside of this forum, I randomly pulled an EBMM thread from The Gear Page. Check it out :

I think this sort of thing is inevitable to some degree.

The problem is that EBMM have launched in effect a Premium line, and as such the expectations are high. People expect the tops to be substantially better than on the standard lines, now if you look at some of the tops on the standard lines you can see that it would be near imposible to be substantially better than some of them.

When you then take account of poor photagraphy it's no suprise and I feel your frustration. I have a guitar (non EBMM) with a spectacular flame top, but when I photograph it it looks average at best, Some tops just photo better than others and without the experiance to bring out the best they can seem nothing special.

I havn't seen any BFR guitars in person but from most of the pictures I've seen although the tops look great, I don't see a huge improvement over many on the standard lines.

Other manufacturers have similar issues I guess. A standard PRS top used to look great now many of them are pretty poor, making their 10tops and premium lines more desirable. So really you are stuck between a rock and a hard place, either the standard lines aren't as good (any even more people moan) or there's not a big enough difference between them and the BFR.

Especially with a brand like EBMM with a good rep for quality and value it is a difficult balancing act.

I think the BFR line of guitars are spectacular. MY opinion. I just wish I could afford one. Maybe one day I will....and the pricing is well worth it. Those pics on this thread are amazing. That luke is amazing.....

People will have opinions both good and bad. Fact of life. I believe the good out weigh the bad and that is all that matters.

You could give a person a Ferrari and they would complain.

Everyone at the factory is proud of their work and they should be. I love each one for making the tools I love and use. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HARD WORK!

Like any other product, the marketplace will ultimately decide the BFR's value to the consumer. The fact that EBMM is swamped with orders for BFRs is undeniable proof that these are quality instruments & well worth their price.

I haven't seen any BFRs in person, but the ones I've seen online have all looked stunning. I can only imagine how good they look in person. EBMM should never have to feel obligated to defend their products, especially when they are already far above the standards of so many other companies.

PS the allegations of deletions was not true. Remember if the original poster decides to delete the first post the thread goes away.

It might be a good idea to turn that function off. I'm a mod at a pretty big forum in Germany and we don't let users delete anything. If they want something removed, they have to ask a mod and he'll replace the post with a note like "Deleted by user's request" and without anything else disappearing.

Fanboy doesn't exactly agree with me but I have been called worst..................so a fanboy I am. Enthusiast should really be the term and we are passionate about our maker. Just like anyone would be about any hobby or interest they may have. I certanly agree that the pics posted at some sites lend a hand in the current BFR top uncertainty. But if anyone visited this site or knew EBMM like we do, they would have seen or known that the tops were fantastic. Sorry EB has to go through the trouble of added work to sell their fine product.
