I like the feel of maple better but prefer the sound of rosewood. Maple sounds a bit too bright for my taste.

Oh, I realize what sort of question it is, believe me.

I am NOT soliciting opinions from YOU GUYS.

Unless the strings are different ages, Id say the second one is rosewood. If it isnt, sadly the strings played too big a role in the comparison for me.

and #2 is RW...

great point about the strings... but i made a point to record those when the strings had approx the same hours of usage on 'em. i guesstimated - didn't use a stop watch or anything. but i did make an effort to have them close to the same (same brand too btw).

my take on this whole issue is that there's too many variables for the FB to make that much of a difference... strings being a big one, as figgy pointed out: older, newer, nickel, stainless etc. then there's eq on the bass and amp, then the cab ... size, porting, horn etc.

One of my first geetar heroes was Ritchie Blackmore. This probably explains my preference for maple boards.

You are HYSTERICAL!!!!!!!!!!
jackalope posts at 10am and your nickers are all bunched up two hours later because it is Monday and I have a little work....

Sorry that my answer took 4 hours but..I actually like both but they always bring me a rosewood one so thats what I play. Ithink that the maple is snappier and brighter and the rosewood may be a tad more balanced and warmer.

The reason for the Bongo not being maple is that is was ugly! (knowingly opening up the Bongo looks debate becasue the EVH thread got deleted)

I love all of you , well maybe love most of you and I will check the forum more dilligently.

Your faithful serventBIG POPPA!

I figured you'd get around to it sooner or later, but it was fun to watch the water balloons flying around.

My preference for rosewood is strictly based on looks alone.

Pretty much the same here Jack, but I can hear the difference and I do love the slightly warmer sound.

I do love an ebony board as well.

I was thinking more like in your old house. (Get it... Dog House)
Staying on target with the thread because I don't want to be accused of hijacking a thread with another "BP doesn't love me" post. Duh. Of course BP doesn't love me. I even have it in writing on a nice piece of paper, behind glass in a $2.00 frame, hanging in a prominent and conspicuous location in my dwelling. I'm gonna stop now before someone gets whacked.

Any way back to the thread.
I read everyone's response on this thread that responded before BP and all I could think was "Hey look, someone other than BP gave their opinion." Although only one person tried to guess what BP would say. Finally, BP's answer was just short of being non committal.

However, he used the word "balanced" to describe rosewood and I think he may be on to something here. Please bear with a short analogy:
The reason hamburgers taste better off a grill is the uneven cooking the fire affords. Some parts are burnt while others are raw. Sure it's not perfect but its the uneven-ness that makes it what I want. It makes magic happen at certain places. Rosewood is like being cooked on the flat iron surface. Everything is even throughout.

Nice thought crystallization BP.
