IMO its a load of crap(no pun intended). the low b is around 20Hz, which is supposedly the frequency of the brown note. i have never felt the need to take a dump after playing the low b on my bongo.

20Hz would be about an octave below open E, open E being about 41Hz.

Bass rigs really aren't that great for reproducing the infrasonic spectrum. You'd be better off with a high end subwoofer. bag end subwoofers are the first to come to mind.

As far as the "brown note", I cannot say if it really is true or not. I can, however, attest to the effect of infrasonics on the nervous system. I used to do a lot of audio experimentation in college. I built a subwoofer that had theoretical useful output (-10dB) down to 15Hz. I would play various signals in the 10-20Hz range using this sub and a 200W amp in my dorm room. Since nobody could tell where the "sound" was coming from, they would wander the halls asking if anybody else had headaches or nausea.

That's one of the things I could remember. Uh, I saw that one, and the poor bastard was sitting in the center of a ring of Meyer pro audio subwoofers with something like 20,000 watts . . . . hardly a home speaker (at least not in any home I have seen . . . ) and still they couldn't verify it . . .

update

Was called today by EB customer service.

I'm getting two new pots overnighted so I can do gig Sat. Hopefully everything will go smoothly. I have experience soldering .5mm pitch SMT parts so I think I can handle replacing the pots myself. I have a Metcal rework station so as long as the pots get here I'm golden for Sat.

Will update when pots arrive.

You might want to take a minute before you're under time pressure to check out how the electronics are mounted...they're not like most basses. The pots are surface-mount (I bleeb that's the correct term), not attached to the body of the instrument.

Pots Received - Bass Fixed

I received the pots today. They were waiting for me when I got home from work

In case anyone is interested here's the procedure I used to replace them. (P.S. Pots are _not_ surface mount - surface mount is the opposite of "thru-hole." "Thru-hole" is where there are holes drilled into the PCB for the component to mount to. SMT is where there is only a pad to solder to. BTW, no SMT anywhere on the printed circuit boards - all thru-hole).

1. Remove back cover.
2. Remove knobs - already done for me .
3. Use a 7/16" socket to unscrew the pot screw mounts.
4. remove and save screw and lock washer.
5. Carefully desolder the 5 pin cable connecting the POT/power PCB (MC017W) to the PUP PCB (MC016W).
6. Clean and remove excess solder from cable holes on the PCB using solder wick.
7. Desolder both pots by melting solder on all 3 pins simultaneously. Let pots fall off PCB under their own weght.
8. Remove excess solder from Pot holes on PCB with Solder wick.
9. Solder pots onto PCB. Make sure vol is in the vol spot, PUP select is in PUP select spot.
10. Re-solder 5 pin Cable to POT/Power PCB.
11. Remove excess flux with a defluxing agent.
12. Push pot shafts thru the holes of the bass.
13. _HAND_ tighten the lock washer and screws for the pots using a 7/16" socket.
14. Put cover back on.
15. Mount knobs. Orient vol pot shaft to mid position for Volume. Mount the knob with the set screw directly facing the floor if the bass is held upright with the neck parallel to the floor. Orient PUP select shaft to the mid detent position. Mount knob with set screw directly facing the top of the bass.
15. Play your ass off!!!

Thanks for straightening me out on that...I meant "pots that are not bolted to the top of the bass."

they found that the pee would separate into droplets before touching the live currents, and wouldn't conduct electicity back up to the person.

Sounds like they just weren't close enough.
