Hi.
New to the forum here, but not new to the Stingray.

I have owned a 77 stingray since 81, and just picked up another 78 to add the the arsenal.

I do have a question.....

Last Friday night we opened for Gretchen Wilson (Country Star) and her guitar tech was going crazy over my bass. He kept bugging me to sell it...... No can do!!

He did tell me that the 77s had a bridge cover on them. He also said it was the only year that they had them...

I have never heard or seen one on any MM bass. I have done a few hours of searching, but have never found anything about them...

Have any of you seen, or heard of them?

He did tell me that he knew of a guy that had some, and would put me in contact with him so I could get one for my 77.

So........ on goes the search!!!!!

Thanks
Jeff

Unless there were one off's created, Stingray's PRE and EB have open bridges.
Early Stingray's had string dampeners, with foam rubber pads, attached to the front of the bridge. A cover would have prevented their use.
As you have a 1977, case in point.

He also told me a bunch of facts about my bass.... Factual in his mind only!!!!

His first reaction was, "OH my God!!!! A B00 Bass!!!!! Number 146 off the line!!!! I can't belive it!!! I have only played one of these in my life. May I check it out?"

Sure, as I carefully keep an eye on him....

He is in love with it. Offers $500.00 on the spot!

My reaction, "Dude, don't insult me!"

10 minutes later.......... "Will you take $1000.00?"

AGAIN----"Dude, don't insult me! I know what I have, and it was a gift from my Dad! I ain't selling!"

10 minutes later.........."How about $1500.00?"

Me--> "I tell you what, you pony up $10 grand cash in the next hour, and it is yours, OHSC and all."

Then he says, "Hey, can we exchange email addresses, so if you ever want to sell it... I want first dibs!! Also, I will put you in contact with the guy that can get you the original bridge."

Sure...... no problem.......

I never got the 10 grand!!!

I have seen one or two with pickup covers but I don't know whether they actually came from the factory like that or not.

General issue Rays didn't come with pickup covers...unless I'm missing sumpin!

If there ever was a cover then wouldn't there be holes somewhere where the cover would have been screwed into?

They are 8 ohms each. I think that brings me down to 4 ohms between the two. And I usually turn the on board speakers off as they seem to be flabby. I need to put some beefier speakers in there!!

I don't recall what my output was. My tech in San Diego told me, but I dont remember. I think it is around 400 watts.......

I do know that with the 2 - 4X10 Cabs, it is a monster!!!!! For Smaller gigs I use my SWR Workinmans 15 with one of the 4X10 cabs..
