I figured inwould chime in on this one, what's up guys?

My y2d has had many changes went from 250 pots to 500 then I put put a jb jazz combo that was okay then bare knuckle rebel yells which I didn't like at all they sounded to bright for me I tried them live again last week and couldn't do it.
So now I'm back to the dimarzio 36th and super distortion a d so far it's been great . Perfect balnce to me between vintagYou e soundin and nice leads. Is the what bridge position. The super distortion gets such nice low end chug when you need it .
These pickups are great combo and they aren't overly pricey which is good . It seems like I will be a very versatile set . But you never know I could change again . This guitar has been apart many times , I think it may stagnation this for awhile.

image.jpeg I'm planning to eliminate one of the two singles on my standard Morse. I love the guitar, the feel, the way it plays, etc. but I don't love the tones for my playing, though I do love it for Steve Morse's, which makes sense I guess. For a time I was trying to make my Morse into a "Swiss army knife" guitar (strat, les Paul, tele) but now my old partscaster strat has found its way back to me, so I don't need to cover strat bases with it.

I have a Zexcoil SV5 for the middle single, which is the only "set in stone" item for now. I also have a Zexcoil Convertible Tele bridge pickup laying around and one of those Glendale tele bridge pickup plates for use with ToM bridges. That pickup can do convincing tele and humbucker bridge tones in the right guitar. Because I'm taking the single coil out closest to the bridge, I will have some positioning room for experimenting. I have a Pickguard heaven Pickguard that I've hacked up for this purpose. Just need time to work on it. My avatar is actually a mockup of this design, with a DMZ bluesbucker in the neck position.

My comments probably read as though I'm unhappy with the Morse guitar, but quite the opposite is true. I love tinkering on, thinking about, researching, and planning what to do with that guitar. Like I said before, I love the feel of it. I am hopefully on a journey to find the tone to match.

Samoht,

Interesting design idea - now make it happen! :)

Am sure Steve would be honored, since his guitar was the product of years of tinkering.

I love the idea. You should have a new pickguard made to fit your bridge pickup properly. My luthier will trace the original pickguard, then make one from scratch. I'm sure you can find a guy to do the same (or use my guy).

Thanks guys! Kevin, thanks for the push...that's what I need to finish. I've got it all dry fitted.

Tollie, I bought two sheets of 3 ply pearloid material, and a chamfer bit for my dremel. Going to try my hand at making it. If that doesn't work out, do you mind PM'ing me your luthier's contact info? Thanks!

Even though I like the pickups I put in , I kind of miss the original morse pickups . They seem to have a cleaity no other pickups have . I might put them back in but still always with a 500k pot.

I'll give you his info for everyone to see, as I'm sure he'd appreciate the plug:

Just for fun I took a screwdriver with me on a gig with the Y2D two weeks' ago and changed heights on all three pickups on a whim and ended up with a monster configuration where the guitar sounds really raw and fun -- I need to measure the heights and save the numbers...

I bought a Majesty recently and I am ecstatic with its tone.

Some of that is no doubt due to the woods and neck-through construction of the Majesty, but, at the moment I am in love with the Dimarzio Illuminator pickups and how clear/articulate/dynamic they are full up or when rolling off the volume knob slightly.

I have traditionally favored medium output pickups and was not sure how I would like the high output Illuminators, but I am now a convert!

Perhaps something else to add to the list of pickups you are considering for your Morse.
