I'm trying to think of cd's that go beyond just shred. Milestone albums that will reach you on a compositional and performance level. Considering that I haven't actually heard John Petrucci's "Suspended Animation," I will refrain from recommending that. I know the thread asked for three, but I will suggest four. You could either throw caution to the wind and pick up all four, or pick any three out of the four. 
My recommendations are:
