Brittle tone

I have a SR4 with a rosewood board. I'd guess it is a 2005. I love the way it feels and plays but I do not love the brittleness of the tone. What can I change to get the tone to mellow a bit? It is currently strung with DR Black Beauties which are quite old so they don't have any new string mojo going.

My rig is an Eden WT-550 and two D112 XLT's with the tweet's both rolled way off.

I played a EBMM in GC the other day that was used. It was an ash body and maple board. It had the EBMM logo but still had the string mute bridge. It was a little more of a growler with less of the hight end brittleness. I liked it.

First Off if you have an Amp with a Tweeter, shut that Off looks like you have, Keep the treble pulled back a bit, should be fine.

I have a markbass CMD 121h. can I turn the tweeter off on this, or utilise one of the filters or a filter configuration? (Only it's in the garage and I'm not going and looking... lazy, i know.)

I also have an SR4 with a rosewood board (HH) AND an Eden WT550 (but different cabs as per my sig below). I suggest ... flat EQ on the bass, don't use enhance on the WT550, all EQ on the WT550 flat other than a bit of mid boost with the mid parametic EQ above it at 9:00 - to boost the low mids. Check battery, pickup height and try a set of Super or Regular Slinky strings.

Can't attenuate the tweeter directly... You can quiet it via EQ adjustment only.

I'd also recommend to change strings first: To me the Super Slinky Roundwounds are just the perfect match for the StingRay.

I second the response of checking your pickup height if your amp & bass settings are not helping.

I'm not 100% sure what you mean by brittle, but I think I know what you are talking about. The first thing I would try is to back the input gain down on your amp and then boost the output volume. I've tried running my rig with the input just below clipping and found that even though the clip light on the amp doesn't come on, it's still somewhere between smooth and overdrive. The same thing could be accomplished by reducing the volume on your StingRay.
