Thanks everyone. This is all great advice. The theme seems to be don't lie, but don't wait either.

I will a) look for some other opportunities and b) let the other guys know that when they are ready to rock again, I will be there.

You all have inspired and motivated me. Thanks!!!

One or more of you should try singing. It really helps in picking up gigs. Also gives a break for the lead singer when someone else can sing a couple of songs a set. I also think audiences like a change of pace during the set. Lastly, it gives you options when the singer flakes and you have a gig. A couple of you can sing a bit + add a few instrumentals to the repetoire = covering the gig w/o a dedicated lead vocalist.

+1

In my cover band we have 2 female singers and both of the skinny stringers sing too. One of the singers is moving to Brazil in Jan. We only loose about 4 songs that only she can sing. Other than that the band goes on :)

We do what we have to do to get gigs. As long as you communicate openly your intentions, there should be no repurcussions. As to singing, or taking on different styles of music just to get to playing again, flexibility = gig/job security.

No seriously...I know there are singing lessons for Classical/Opera singers. But what about pop/rock singers?

Yeah there are rock/pop singing instructors too. They're really helpful as well, they'll teach you how to scream safely and stuff like that, not to mention ofcourse general proper singing technique. Just make sure before you start taking lessons that he/she can teach the style your singer sings in. That's actually what I meant by taking singing lessons, go to a rock singing teacher
