After contemplating what guitar to purchase next and heavily comparing the Brian Moore C90P and the Petrucci for about a month, I decided on the Petrucci. I was so excited for it to arrive. Imagine my horror when I noticed the neck pocket finish crack - just like I've read about here and various other sites.

So now, I'm waiting for a replacement to arrive. It was difficult to pack it up after having it for three days and playing it heavily over the weekend...

I checked out the Brian Moore guitars when I was contemplating my Petrucci. I sure am glad I ended up buying the Petrucci!

Sorry to hear about your finish issue.. but you know that EBMM will make it right!

I did buy it new - from Grand Central Music in Minnesota. I was disappointed by the packing job. They literally put the guitar in the case and the case in a box and shipped it that way. Even though I had warned them about making sure the guitar was extra snug in the case with bubble wrap. They gave me the standard answer "the case is form fit and the guitar won't move in transit".

Here's more pics of the guitar:

my Axis came from across the country California to Illinois but they did not pack it with any protection besides the form case. Though the guitar arrived fine the case got banged up by UPS. UPS has to be more careful.;)

That is a beautiful guitar! Man, I love that color.

Don't worry, it will be amazing when it gets back to you. :)

That is the way to properly ship the guitar... BP and crew have done their homework and it's been discussed ad nauseum in the past. The cases were redesigned to give the guitar some room to wiggle. That was one of the reasons for the stress crack issue in the first place. You don't want it packed so tight that it can't move, that's when catastrophic damage can and will occur.

And just a heads up for you, if you do send it back to SLO, don't pack it in peanuts or Jon will turn the killer dog loose on you. :D

As an aside, my Petrucci has made the cross country trip twice in it's life and has no stress cracks. And it was just put in the case and then a cardboard box. Could be some luck involved, but when the big guns at SLO say that's the way to do it, I tend to believe them.

good luck! I'm sure it will be made right for you.

I have a hairline finish crack at my neck joint too - about 1/4" long and you need to really look to see it. Every bolt on guitar I've ever owned gets them - no big deal. It doesn't diminish the guitar one bit in my opinion - still sounds and plays incredible. :)

That's pretty much how everyone ships their guitars.

Hmmmm. I forgot about WD, he's pretty damn tenacious too...

Nah, in the case of peanuts, you're pretty much Jon's. You go to the back of the line and he'll get to you when he gets to you... Don't tick off the man. ;)
