Hi Guys,

Is there a difference between buttercream and white? Because i looked on the MM site and there is no colour option "White"

If there is a white colour, is this it (see below)? Or is it buttercream?

There most certainly is a white color option on the MM website.
Hard to tell in the pick but I believe the buttercreme basses had tort pickguards.

Just by the pic, I would guess that was White, also because the Buttercream was a Limited Edition color only and came equipped with a shell guard.

White is the 2nd entry on the color chart!

But to answer your question, Buttercream is indeed different from White. Buttercream was a limited edition color available only for a portion of 2005. You cannot order a new EBMM in that color anymore... the cutoff period has passed.

Buttercream is sort of a yellowed, aged off-white looking color. I'm really bad at describing colors.. sorry!

I agree that the bass in the photo looks white. The picture colors are skewed, but I'd say white.

Cheers for all the replies.

I wrote the wrong colour in the post, i really meant vice-versa (white no buttercream).

So you can disregard my question really, as i confused myself!

Thanks

You got me thinking guys. Will the White finish on the sterling I'm getting yellow and turn into buttercream? Or was that just something that used to happen in the past because of the kind of paint they used?

Hi Hank,

Check out the thread on my (now famous) white bass, entitled "Beff's Bass". The body on mine is about 4 years old, and it has yellowed a little bit to something in between "hot off the press" white and buttercream. I don't think it will ever yellow to the point of Buttercream, and it won't ever share the same "creaminess" of the Limited Edition color, but it has aged nicely.

It will if you play it a lot in really smokey bars!

Hey thanks Beth. That bass of yours is really nice, I love the albalone pickguard. It doesn't really look like its yellowed much at all, but I'm sure a ton of different factors could contribute to it yellowing like what Mobay said. Oh well if it ever does get a little more like buttercream I'll just have to slap a tort guard on it and then all will be well. Thanks again!

OOOOO i love that, its really nice loking. I love it when white guitars/basses go that off white colour. Looks like its had some experience.

Well found a sparkle white bass which is quite exciting, i might go ahead on that. This is quite a rare colour is it not? A colour once again not on the colours list.

Hi Regular Slink,

Yeah, that color has been discontinued for a number of years now. We had it available for about a year and a half - 2 years, so the fact that it is no longer order-able does give it sort of an "exclusive" and "exciting" feel.

Enjoy! Keep on posting!

Oh, well....I guess you could just say I like wheelin' and dealin' and trying out different basses. I don't remember now why I got rid of it (it was a perfectly good bass) but it probably had something to do with getting another SR5 or a Bongo or something, knowing me.
