Hi All,
Can someone enlighten me on what you have to pay when you are buying a guitar from the US and getting it shipped to the UK. I am aware that normally I will have to pay the 20% VAT when I receive the guitar, normally collected by the courier on behalf of UK customs which is about $600 on a $2500 guitar but the US manufacturer tells me that he has been asked to pay $600 extra now (described as tariff/VAT on his shipping paperwork) and that needs to be prepaid at his end before they can ship it. Is this normal? Is he being asked to pay this UK VAT upfront? I am just trying to work out what has changed as he said this is not what used to happen. I dont want to pay this extra $600 to him and then the courier ask me for $600 UK tax when it gets here. Anyone know anything about this? Any help would be appreciated, I know a couple of guys that helped me out when buying my Cutlass said they had shops in the US so would be good to know what they have to pay when shipping to the UK.
