I've purchased supplies from them, never guitars. They've always delivered.

When it comes to guitars (and especially on-line purchases), I prefer to deal with a person who can answer questions about the actual guitar I'm buying. Recently, I've had GREAT dealings with the folks at Chuck Levin's Washington Music in Maryland ('09 Fender Strat Deluxe Ash). Brian Meader worked with me to order the specific color combo I wanted directly from Fender. And, because they sell a ton of guitars, they have a better "in" with Fender. They also sell MusicMan (not sure how many, though). They typically beat everyone on price (they don't usually advertise their price on-line, so call).

And, just last week, I ordered a BFR Axis from Wild West Guitars in Riverside, CA. I was directed to them by the sales guys here at EBMM because WW had the specific guitar I was after. Bo Harrison at Wild West was great.

Guitar dealers like these offer personal service. They can play the guitar for you (since you can't be there) and provide honest, knowledgeable feedback. And, being the cheapskate that I am, I always shoot for the lowest price. Fortunately, I've learned that low price and great service are not mutually exclusive.

I bought my 25th through GC online (GC and MF are same). No problems and flawless guitar. I give the lion's share of the credit to EBMM because all of their product is top notch no matter who is selling it, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy something else from MF/GC.

I have bought a few MM's from Guitar Center and my last one from Musician's Friend online.

I called Pete Dubaldo and after talking to him, I will likely buy my future MM's from him.

The only thing that turns me off is that he takes them out and inspects them. I can see why, I just wish that it wasn't necassary.

He also takes parts and replaces them with Mexican Strat parts.

Kidding.

Wow I asked Pete to play mine and see what he thought about it, thought it would be a cool thing to do since he's like one of us.

I bought my Silo from Musicians Friend. Expected the worst, but it arrived in factory new condition (not even a finger print on it). Overall it was a good experience. However, if I was in the market for a custom-order guitar, I'd go to my local dealer (in my case it's Wild West as previously mentioned) because I'd prefer not to have the guitar shipped from CA to some other state and then back to CA. Pete's a great guy to work with though...

I wouldn't exactly say that. If I am not mistaken GC charges sales tax online in all states. MF only charges in Utah, Indiana, Missouri, and Washington State. If you bought a 25th, paid tax, and don't reside in one of the above states you may be feeling a bit deflated about now

Here's how I would look at it. For a guitar with a "normal" or solid color paint job, go for it. For BFR's and figured top guitars, I think there is no way to see the top you are getting.

BUT, the good side is that companies like GC and MF have great return policies, so you can't really lose.
