So, i'm buying a used music man stingray from 2004/2005.
Cost me $1000 CDN.

What's the difference between 2004/05, and the current year? Currently, MM stingrays are running $1775 CDN.
I've seen recent music man stingrays, and the neck is white maple, no finish.

Does the 2004/05 models have a glossy finish on the neck?
And what other subtle changes have been made?

If anybody has the answer to my questions, it would be much apprecaited.

I can't think of anything different on the StingRay 4-strings. The neck on an 04/05 will not be glossy.

So then, it's basically the same model, and made exactly the same way.... just a little seasoned.

Two small things to may be different to a current model:

1.) AFAIK, the compensated nut was introduced along with the dual pickup models in the mid of 2005. So a 2004/2005 model will probably not have one.

2.) In late 2006 or 2007 there was a change in the pots used for the preamp, with the newer ones feeling much more solid or "sticky". The pots on the older preamps feel less solid and may rattle a bit, but are much easier to turn (which can be a good thing when you want to change the sound while playing)

Apparently, this bass has a satin finish on the neck... If the 2004/05 models had no finish on the neck, does this mean that he's lying about how old it is? Do older models have a satin finish on the neck?

So far, all the 1999 models i've found online have a satin finish, but i can't seem to find much after that. Is 2000 when they stopped putting a satin finish on the necks?

The "satin finish" is what you'll feel on a brand new bass if you go to your local retailer and play one... You'll love it :)

Get the serial #

That's probably my best option at this point.

I'm actually looking to get a neck with no finish... like the newer models that are at the local dealer. I've grown a taste for a bare neck.
It looks more white rather than golden. Kind of what i'm going for.

I think we're talking about different things ;) AFAIK, an 04/05 should have the same neck finish, so check the serial:)
