Never thought a cab could make such a difference but after plugging the MarkV to the Recto cab which arrived today and playing my 25 anniv through it, it just roared as I never thought it could!!
I could not agree with you more!
I am a boogie man myself, have been for quite some time.
I have been playing and touting recto cabs for years.
They are something special for sure.
Congratulations on your fantastic cab/amp/guitar combo!
Speakers and cabinet are a HUGE part of the final tone you hear. It's like having an EQ pedal between the power amp and your ears. So much so that it still amazes me that very few music stores stock replacement speakers and only the tiniest percentage of those have any kind of rig that allows you to audition speakers before buying. The Watford Valves website has a Sound Factory kind of thing where you hear a whole bunch of different speakers on the same lead track. You may be surprised just what a difference it makes.
When I changed my cab it was insane how much better my rig sounded. I used to have a 2X12 Mesa Rectifier cab, but I didn't really like it. It was too midrangy for my taste. But my father was going to sell this old Genz-Benz George Lynch G-Flex 2X12 cabinet, and when I plugged it my 6505+ into it, it was just CRUSHING. That cabinet is DEFINITELY my secret weapon. It's too bad Genz Benz doesn't make them anymore because they are just INSANELY good, and made in the U.S.A!
Hi,
I am using my mkV head in different situations, in different rehearsal studios. I thought that it was convenient just to take the head (and pedals) and use the cabinet that is available for that night.
How could I be wrong! One time it is a Marshall, in other studios is a Fender (4x12, made in China...) or a H&K.
At home (and on stage) I am using my rectifier cabinet: indeed, the difference is so big, I can not believe my ears.
Other band members also noticed this. So, now I am taking my own cabinet, also for rehearsals.
Why not let such a beautiful amp really come to live, right? Cannot put my Balls down with this combination.
Enjoy.
