I stepped on my guitar cable while playing the other day. The ensuing noise that came through my rig can't be a good thing. I'm wondering if you might have any suggestions for a "cable lock" system that would work for my Stingray. Thanks!

Well, I run wireless, so I don't have problem...however, I would loop the cable through the strap and I put a zip tie or bread tie on it to secure it.....cheap way to do it. If you play gigs, keep a wire cutter handy in case you need to switch out!

Just loop the cable over the strap.
There are locking jacks, from Neutrik and perhaps others, but tohse look pretty ugly imho.

Cable locks are very dangerous!

Better a popping noise of the jack pulled out, than a broken cable/jack soldering...

I use an angled Neutrik jack and loop the cable through the strap. (see pic)

Yes, just loop it through the strap. Stepping on the cable is something that everyone does at some point. I saw Tony Levin do it a couple of months ago...man, did he move fast to pick it up and get it plugged back in!

Funny that you brought up the Neutrik Silent Plug. By sheer coincidence, I've got one on the way.

I'm in the habit of always unplugging my bass, so I need to silence the cable. I've been using the Planet Waves Circuit Breaker cable for some time now. Nice cable...I have only one complaint. The switch is too easy to turn off by accident. It's happened twice now at gigs, when my thigh bumped into it.

So, I called up Butch at Bayou Cables (http://www.bayoucables.com ...he does great work) and bought a new cable with one of the Silent Plugs on it.

Oh, and I got it in red so that I wouldn't be so prone to stepping on it! :D

Hey Dave
I use that one, but it's not for locking the cable, it's for muting when you unplug. That new version is really good at what it does though:)

This is the Neutrik jack: http://www.neutrik.com/content/Products/products_group.asp?level2id=204_168271

Ha ha ha. I know. The point is if you're going to pull it out then pull it out quietly.

Personally I use the no cost loop through the strap method.

BTW. That's my eBay Shop selling those Neutrik connectors..

Sorry, I didn'read the original question properly, he DID ask for a way to eliminate the popping:eek:

Anyway, do you sell the jacks too? They fit well in tele's and anything else with a 1" hole, and work great.

If you mean jack sockets then the answer is not at the moment but like all things, if there is a demand then..... Check out the Ebay store and the web site. If you need something then pm or email me for a non eBay price, etc.
