I was at GC the other night to pick up a couple new cables and might have made a mistake by asking the difference between two Monster cables. I then got a lesson in how each brand of cable colors tone.

I know that the gold tipped cables supposedly have better conductivity, which supposedly sounds better. I know that Monster makes a "bass" cable, which I honestly thought was a gimmick. But the GC salesman was telling me that the Monster cables add bass to your tone, but that the Mogami cables were crystal clear.

Can a cable really affect your tone in any noticeable way???

I have tried many different Cables, and to no surprize the only one that you can actully hear the difference was the Azolla Cables, I hope I pronounced that right. They are 100% sterling silver cable, about $120 for a 15 footer. That cable will blow your mind but as far as Monsters Hype I heard no difference.

no insult/injury taken. I work with too many engineers that take their CRC handbooks as the gospel. I like to see things boiled back down to basic principles.

Yeah I do as well (I am not an engineer but could be in the next few years If I finish my schooling - which I am scared about).

I also do a lot of Guitar pick up repairs and I hear all this stuff and you just get tired of it.

The latest I got told last week is you know those Coated Strings (wont mention the name) well apparently they last 3 - 5 years!!!!!!
