To be honest, I feel sick abut it because 1) he is a friend, a local proprietor 2) I just don't even know if I want him to touch it again. Should I just get it to my real tech( Bill Baker, Ace F's old tech and pretty mch area go to guy)? I mean, this isn't my beater guitar, it's new, I want it one right. Then I'm out some coin, but maybe my conscience is a bit clearer. I playout in the NYC area a lot, this is supposed to be one of my main guitars, I want it done right. I originally DID install the Tuna myself, but I felt it was too close to the finish, that's why I took it in. I'm not a Floyd pro, I just wanted it done right. Do i take another chance or just bite the bullet and take it to my main guy?

This is crazy!!! What did he use to shim the neck....a roll of quarters?

Take it to a real tech and see if you can get any pointers on how to maintain your guitar properly. In the meantime I would suggest you read up on the basics of guitar adjustments and maintenance. In my opinion, every guitar player should be able to confidently make adjustments and setup their own guitar exactly the way they want. It's not as hard and scary as you might think. The Internet is a beautiful thing! It's a blessing and a wealth of knowledge. Google is your best friend.

Out of curiosity, could you take a pic of the action at the highest frets? Bummer dude, hope you get it fixed soon. It's not hard to do yourself, but as the others said, finding a good reliable tech who will explain things is priceless.

The Axis is kinda tricky to set up for unexperienced folks as you can really only increase the action well without shimming, etc. But they come great from the factory. I'd not advise against tilting the Floyd, it adds a major tuning instability. But as always, YMMV.

Good news man. I just saw you live in Jersey City. Go see Evan Gluck in Manhattan. He's the best tech in town and he works out of his house. In other words, his rates are stellar and his work is top notch. I used to send everyone to him when I lived there and they were always thrilled with the service. Tell him Daniel C sent you.

I'll check him out tomorrow- playing Red Lion in the Village tomorrow night- was hoping to have her out for the show- alas, not meant to be.

Thanks for the words, guys- I hate posting threads like this.

I think there is a number of guys going around claiming to be techs just because they open up some mom and pop store. There was a similar post like this on the GP but only the guitar was a Lester, but it was set up the same way. I really count my blessings that one of my best friends is my tech and is truly a wiz at his work. If you are in Brooklyn take your guitar to Maggio Music 8403 18th ave and ask for Mike Junior. Tell Mike= Mike.D sent you and if he is not busy he will correct that on the spot. Mike has been doing my guitars for 20 years and is very familiar with my EVH's and Axis guitars, is an EBMM dealer, and his family has owned that store since 1937! Hey the guy may be your friend and a good guy, but his talent is not in the tech department. I seriously would not let him touch the guitar again, as that D-Tuna is going to go right into the finish the way it is set now if you pull up. You have been given a few options take one of them up.

Perfect as it was out of the box, it really wasn't for the Tuna. It sat way too close to the guitar for any use- but perfectly setup it was...

Holy sh*t, check out that huge gap!! Thats a massive shim!

I put a shim in the back of the neck pocket on my Axis as well, its about the thickness of a business card but that thing....damn man, shell out the moolah and get this setup right. Thats too good of a guitar to experience any of this.

I hope you did not pay for this. If so, you need a refund plus the guy needs to pay you for f*****g it up like that. It should be fine once it is set up properly. I've never seen such nonsense to be honest. I've had some not so pleasant experiences with techs before...that is why I do them myself at this point and it is working out great. The only thing I wont do is a refret...but I would be sending the guitar to EBMM for that as they do it perfectly!
