Now we're rollin'! Hey Lee, Let's hear a little about yourself. Like what instruments you own, what style music, kind of strings and guage, whatever! ....ANYONE ELSE?
Hey, I'm a bass player too ! In fact, I'm female (a bit rare when it comes to bass playing). 19 years of age, I've been playing for 4,5 years (but I've been playing music since the age of 6). I've got an Ibanez Soundgear SR3000sol which I love, but currently my main bass is a '91 StingRay 4 which I borrowed from a friend (untill my custom ordered StingRay is finished).
I play mainly pop/rock, funk and jazz, but I like to play all kinds of different stuff.
Strings? I used to play with d'Addario's but will soon try out Ernie Ball (extra) Slinky's... curious about that. I play .40 .60 .75 .95 strings because they rock !
That's about it, I guess...
Hey JAZZY, (nice name by the way) You've got an awsome bass there, actualy both of 'em rock. I've been playing Ibanez basses since the begining. I own an EDB 600, an SR 885 and a GSR 200 which I put a Badass bridge, Qtr Lb PnJ Duncans and Grover tuning keys,(all black) I know the bass is just an introductory type but I loved the feel and tone of it, so I upgraded it, I guess you'd say. Now it actualy plays and sounds better than my friends SR 300. I also just purchased an ESP C-305 5 string. I usualy only play Ibanez (obviously), but a guy in another band let me borrow his for a gig and I was blown away. Tell me, or us, a little bit more about yourself. I'm stoked to talk to a lady bassist, you're a rare breed, and would love to chat more. Later!
I play a white-on-black OLP StingRay-5, and I just got new German-made Warwick strings gauged .40-1.3 I believe.
I play ska, punk, hardcore, reggae, and I attempt at jazz (yet fail miserably).
I only started about 6 months after I moved to Australia from Israel (my homeland), so that means I've been playing for about a year and a half now.
I play in a band, but not as a bassist, as a guitarist. It's alright, not quite the same thrill as playing bass but still good fun.
My amp is an absolutely crap Ashton 150w bass amp (NEVER go Ashton when going for an amp, NEVER).
I basically appreciate any form of music that isn't too zany to be comprehended (flamenco ), or takes 3 chords and nothing but root notes on the bass to play.
Ok, I'll admit it, I DO like 3-chord root-note music occasionally, but the more talent, the better.
I know what you're saying, Lee. If you really enjoy playing the bass, simple tunes are also fun. Not if you play them 24/7, but they're fun to play once in a while.
About your playing guitar instead of bass in a band, why?? I mean, they needed a guitar player and already had a bassist, so you joined to play six strings instead of four (or five in your case)? I'd say, if you have the time and the means, go get yourself a band to play bass in ! You'll never regret it, and you'll learn a lot more than when you're just playing in your small little bedroom, or when you're playing guitar in a band...
Take my word for it, I know
yo everyone my name is john an ive been playin bass for four years (going on a life time), i use a 87 p-bass with active emg p-ups, i slap mostly as i am in tune with funk, ska an punk an reggae, bur anyways i just registerd an wanna get to know some people in the house of balls, oh an i just orderd a (musicman s.u.b 4-string) an i play though an anpeg 6x10 classic cab with a gallen kreuger 100 rb head .bye bye
hi, i am rob, i play mostly my fender j-bass, god knows wat strings, sum crappy fender ones i suppose, yeh, and i have just got a mm sub, gr8 value, same pickup and bridge as a stingray, but in my opinion better looks. i been playing for bout 2 years now, and really enjoying it.
i play rock, ska, punk, and songs i mite not like, but have a gr8 bas line.
anyway, one thing bout my mm s.u.b is, although everything bout it seems good quality, plays like a dream and all, but its scratch plate SUCKS, so bad, its cheap and nasty, and i was wondering, wud a stingrays scratch plate fit it?
u guys seem to have them so watever. feedback plezz, rob
mushroomman, they a stingray scratch plate should fit a sub but there may be some minor alterations to make, ive examend stingrays and it looks like the screw pattern are the same , what you should do is put a pice of paper over the screws that hold on the scratch plate and make a dot where the screws are the go to a music store and place the paper over a stingray if the screws line up then ur cool.
ight peace hope i helped
thanks, will do, i got me bass in white, so with the black neck and hardware, it shud look good in black, i wud av red, but i dont think i can get tht officialy.
hey, i'm ken, i own a '03 stingray, candy red w/ maple neck, white pickguard, and a short scale samick. been playing for 4 years, and i mostly play punk, but i like to expand as a bass player by covering all types of music
you can check out my band here: Foot-Wide (it's under construction now)
I use a '97 stingray 4, Gallien - Krueger 4 x 10 cab, celestion 15, with Warwick head. I also play through a crybaby bass wah & Ibanez bass chorus.
I use this rig as I try to mimic the sound that made Flea (r.h.c.p), and Michael anthony (van halen ) are famous for.
Hello , Eh! I play the bass toooo I've got a fretted and fretless pair of Mollerup 5's (made here in Vancouver) an Engelhardt 3/4 size upright(with a Realist pick-up) and my month old '02 Natural finish/rosewood-board/tort. pickgaurd/fretted StingRay5 . Hopefully in the next month I'll be getting a fretless StingRay5 with piezo pick-up for a Canadian road trip in November. For amplification I use a Mesa WalkAbout head with one Mesa 2x10" and a Mesa Scout 1x12" is on the way. I've also gotta send up big props for the life saver box the ever useful SansAmp Bass Driver DI. effects wise I've got a DOD Envelope Filter, a Yamaha NE-1 EQ box and a Boss OC-2 octave pedal. I just tried out a Tech21 Killer Wail and was impressed with the Audioslve-esque tones.. next pedal I think...
Here are links to a few peole I play for:
... so that's about it, oh, I've been playing Warrior(D'Addario made) strings for a couple of years now but have switched to Slinks 130-45's . AND Levy's straps!!!!!! The big thick ones with the faux sheep-skin on them.
I have an 04 SR5 and an 02 Fender PJ5 that I turned into a fretless. GK1001RBII head into a GK 15RBH. 700watts BABY!!!!!!!!!!! I loved my fender till I heard my new MM. It blew it away so much I had to strip the frets off the Fender to renew my passion for it (which it is totally unique and lovely now compared to the MM). Of course now I understand the "sting" in stingray because of the shock when I first played it. Its the one guys!!!!!
