Calling gsdito or any photographic people

After seeing the superb photos of the pair of anniversary stingrays in gsdito's thread. I wondered if gsdito or anyone could give some advice regarding the photographing of basses/guitars.

Well a plain backdrop is good as well as indirect lighting. Usually you want to avoid direct flash.

Look at dudes's pictures on the pit (VBTC).

I use a plain white cardboard sheet and window light shooting from above using a tripod.

Thanks for the kind words on the photo. Yes, most definitely indirect lighting gives the best results. I was fortunate, because mine were shot in a photo studio (my buddy is a professional photographer). He used 2 strobes with large Chimera LightBanks (large, diffused light source); one overhead, and one off to the right hand side. A third was used to light the background, which is a large roll of gray paper which runs from under the bass stand to the back wall and up, giving the gradient appearance.

Well yes dark backgrounds and sunlight is ok. Photographers prefer "cloudy bright" for people photography because direct sunlight is harsh like direct flash.
With digital cameras you can play around and burn lots of frames without "wasting" film. Experiment. Find what you like and try to duplicate it. Just like playing bass.

The format I showed in my post above is reproducible for me so I like to do that. The studio shot that was mentioned requires a studio, or the same setup and lighting, and may be hard to duplicate unless you have the space or a real studio.

There, as there is a large area of bright white, the camera is compensating for that, so to stop it being washed out, it is darkening the people (ever try getting photos pf people standing at windows or the like? looks fine to you, but they are shadows in the photo...)

hahaha are you serious! wow, yeh i guess i can sort of see it now. but gosh, at first glance i just thought that was a black fretless stingray but looking closer i can see it is crimson!

SVT4HLF Classic cab, with a Behringer BX3000T Head, not really satisfied with the head though, main vol is WAy too sensitive
plus i like it REAL boomy , and it doesnt project that well :/

i took a picture of myself, and i layered over it kinda basic vectoring!

that anime picture was in the Japanese Anime "Beck" theyre a japanese band who wants to get big in America.
the bassist is really, actually quite really good. and when i saw that white on black music man, i told myself i had to get it
and Dan (Mcpherson) hooked me up with a white pick up cover couple of months ago

i met him at the Namm show, looking pretty funky! hahaha!
