Ok, this really is a shot in the dark or like looking for a needle in a haystack but here goes.

I am based in the UK and I sold my 1998 3 EQ Teal Green Musicman Stingray to a bassist who either lived or had a friend or family that lived between Kingston Upon Thames and Richmond. More to the point, the place was called Ham and they lived in some flats which I think are somewhere around Northweild Lane, Yeovilton Place, Debden Close which are all off Dukes Avenue. The bass was sold on Ebay in 2001 for around £670.00, came with a Musicman hardcase and I delivered it to this address. I got the impression the person did not live here and I was dropping it with a family member but I could be wrong.

Anyway, I would love to get this back if possible as it does have some sentimental value.

If anyone knows of any bassists in this area or even better if they are on here, let me know. Very unlikley but hey, its worth a go. I guess, even if you don't want to see it, would be good to know how the bass is doing.

It's a shame mate, I know the Kingston / Richmond and Ham areas very well, my son now lives in my old home in Richmond, and for many years (when I used to live there) I have hung around Chandler Guitars in Richmond by Kew Gardens St. sadly I have never known anyone with that particular bass. I did see a couple of Teal Green Stingrays both 4 and 5's in the Denmark Street shops.

Not even in the days when I used to study at the Guitar and Bass Institute in Acton have I met a bloke with that particular one, sorry.

I think in my time there I must have met most of the bass players in both Surrey & Middlesex. We should really start a website called Bass Reunited perhaps that might bring some results, who knows. Anyway good luck in your search.

Thanks very much for your reply. I do have the feeling that the guy did not live at the flat I dropped the bass at. I have a feeling it was his sisters flat so he could had lived anywhere I guess.

Oh well, I will keep looking. I wonder if the bank have the details of cheques payed in way back in 2001 and the person who wrote the cheque. Probably not knowing my luck.

Go ask, they should have records of your statements from years ago, hopefully it might say who's account the money transferred from. Worth a try! Once you have a name, it's very easy to find people these days.

Anything is possible. If you look at the Autumn Redburst SR4 bass on my homepage, it's a bass I was reunited with after trading it in at a music store
2 1/2 years ago. I noticed a few months back, that someone returned it, and had the goal of getting it back. I sold a couple of Fender basses I had and went down and picked it up about a month ago. The owner of the store even had my transaction on their computer(with the serial #) and he knocked $150 off the price and sold it back to me for $900. I'm so happy to have it back, and can't believe I sold it in the first place!

I recently ran the poll to see if a clear or black pickguard was the way to go, but I've decided to go with neither and just order a smoked mirror pickguard in honor of my favorite bassist...Phil Lynott!!

Take Care

Thanks guys. I'll give the bank a try. I have my statement that shows the exact date so as long as they keep the reords, then they might be able to help.

Of course Linus you have to appreciate also that finding your old bass is only half of the task, difficult as that might be for you to find it in the end, the other half of the task will all depend on the current owner, whether he/she are willing to sell it or not, and more importantly, at a price which would really make it worth it for you to regain possession of this cherished instrument.

Let me also put this to you: you know there is a lot of people (and I have to agree with this concept) that would argue that once you remove the karma and mojo effect from your one time possession you realize that the newer MusicMan Stingrays as well as the other basses such as Sterling, Bongo and even the newest models the Big Al and the 25th Anniversary are way better than the old basses and that when it comes to EBMM the concept "vintage" only really refers to an age factor and I have not heard anyone saying "They don't do them like they used to" when they refer to MusicMan basses in fact you hear more comments about people who have owned MM basses from 20 years ago til present age (myself for example) who will actualy tell you that the truth is, "Modern MusicMan basses are actually better than the older or even pre EB models!"

"Why" you may ask, well to name you but a few nowadays you have:
  • Compensated nut
  • choice of 3 different pickup layouts (H / HH / HS)
  • active/passive bypass (Big Al and 25th Anniversary)
  • thinner necks (Sterling)
  • Neodymium pickups (Bongo/Big Al/25th anni)
  • Mahogany tone blocks (in some limited edition models)
  • resonance chambered bodies (25th Anniversary)
  • ... and then there's the Bongo, the ulitmate weapon of bass distraction imho. Go try one! ;)
The choice, as you see it's huge and frankly we've never had it so good. My advice to you is that perhaps chasing your old bass it's just an emotional sentiment and should you not be lucky to recover it, you can do a lot better with the current production Ernie Ball gear.

A lot of true statements indeed and I agree with you that newer Stingrays are just as good if not better than older ones. I have a 2005 Stingray and it sounds and plays no different than my old from from 1998.

However, the reason I would like my old one back is simply because I always wanted a musicman stingray when I was learning to play and when I signed my record deal, I bought it from my advance. More importantly, I recorded with it on my one and only album so it has sentimental value there to.

Like you say, even if I do find it, the owner may not wish to sell it.

Sure, the band was called Inter and the album was called Got My Nine. It was released back in 2001 so pretty old now and rare to find but Amazon has the album and the singles still as does Ebay now and again.

We also had an old Myspace page where you can listen to the songs if you like. All the songs apart from the You Lose demo is from the album.

HEHE well my rig is also up for sale also as I am going to get the ABM 500 EVO II head and the ABM 4 x 10. I just fancy lugging one cab about rather than two.

Great choice, great sound, you must surely be young and fit

Wouldn't like to buy mine would you? Maybe it's time I went for that lightweight Markbass stuff

I spent the morning playing through some Markbass stuff to see what all the fuss was about with the intention of buying it. Hated it. Granted it was only the Little Mark II and the Markbass 4 x 10 but it sounded horrible. I played it back to back with the Ashdown ABM head through an ABM 4 x 10 and an Ashdown MAG setup. The ABM stuff sounded so much better, much more scope of variety of tones. Shame as I had high hopes for the Markbass stuff.
