I spent the morning playing through some Markbass stuff to see what all the fuss was about with the intention of buying it. Hated it. Granted it was only the Little Mark II and the Markbass 4 x 10 but it sounded horrible. I played it back to back with the Ashdown ABM head through an ABM 4 x 10 and an Ashdown MAG setup. The ABM stuff sounded so much better, much more scope of variety of tones. Shame as I had high hopes for the Markbass stuff.
Ooh, heresy
Must admit, a few days ago I was exploring the single pole aspects of my SR5 and cranked the valve pre-amp drive all the way to 11 on the old Ashdown. There's a piece of music wot I wrote a few years back which is all bass chords, pretty much, and I have to say it sounded quite amazing. It's taken me ages to find that sound live (in the studio we thickened it all up with chorus and overdrive effects) but there it was, straight out of the amp. Loads of balls, so to speak. What a wonderful thing is an HH SR5 and, tonally, an ABM EVO II. Just wish the 4x10 wasn't so heavy.
