Can a bongo sound like a stingray?

Hiya all,

I picked up a stingray in my local music shop today, plugged into the same gear that I have at home and it just seemed to have a certain 'sparkle' that my bongo doesnt have (even with new strings). Should I be able to get a stingray sound from my bongo or are they just different guitars and I shouldnt be trying?

I must admit that my treble control on the bongo doesnt seem to make that much difference to the sound.... It does make SOME difference but not as much as I might except having since played that stingray.

Any ideas or info welcome!

A bongo sounds like a bongo.
A sterling sounds like a sterling.
A duck sounds like a duck.

Buy one of each, BP and the duck will both be grateful.....if you take care of them

True, but my wife would kick my ass! unless i could distract her with a cute duck.... is she that gullable? hmm

I would say that the single H Bongo comes the closest to Stingray territory. It's got the humbucker in the stingray spot and isn't quite as deep as the HH.

I've got a Bongo H and Stingray and that's exactly how I hear the tone differences. The Bongo is much more controlled or modern sounding for lack of better terms. It seems to have more low-mids and less treble than the Ray. I like them both and they just different enough to keep both around.

There is a definite difference. I have never heard a Bongo that sounded like a Stingray, close but no cigar. I prefer the old Stingray tone, thus do not own a Bongo. Many people here love the sound though so I guess it is just up to if you like the differences.
