If so, I'd like to make my first post here a hearty HELLO to all of the Music Man players of the world In spite of being tied to Music Man as a dealer it wasn't until yesterday that I was turned on to this site by he who is known as "Big Strings". I come here not as a retailer, but as a player.

I suspect that I'll find comfort here by way of the simple fact that I don't have to listen to Bongos referred to as "toilet seats" and also in knowing that I'm surrounded by others who feel as I do: "Music Man" makes the best "manufactured" instruments on the planet and it's our job to let the rest of the world know about it.

Some of you I know from other forums--I hope that I can learn much by hanging my hat here. Thank You for having me as a member and may Dan McPherson live long and prosper.

Welcome Rich!

I'm waiting on two EBMMs as we speak (one Ray and one Bongo), and can't wait to have them in my arsenal!

Get your feet wet here, and dive in with any input/thoughts/ramblings...not only as a player, but as a dealer as well.

Welcome Rich!

Make yourself at home... :)

Thanks for the welcome guys. Does this mean I can put my boots up on Big Poppa's furniture and make regular trips to the fridge without asking? :D

Well thanks, guys. I'm "kind" of a REAL NEWBIE. I discovered Music Man farrrrr too late in life. Sometimes I kick myself in the butt thinking about all the cool basses I COULD have been playing. :^>) But, it's never too late and right now I'm making lots of other players happy by introducing THEM to Music Man.........it's kind of a pay back to the bass gods for me and gives me HUGE levels of pleasure.

Rich, if I can truly say with all honesty on a public forum that my favorite bass in my herd is without question my Bongo 4 HH I'll join you in that club my friend.

<---still lusts for an RB John Lodge.

A Second Home!

Steve..you're a brave man. On some Forums you'd be burned at the stake for making such a statement. Here--it shows good sense and great taste. ;)

BTW.......You mentioned a John Lodge Bass. As you know, John got serial #1. I got (and sold) serial #2. A VERY wonderful lady that I know got #3 and it's a beauty. Some say that there's no such thing as Karma. I beg to differ. I received a note from her two days ago. She's looking to sell it. Almost TO THE BASS, the John Lodge basses were purchased by women who were Moody Blues fans----but didn't know how to play!! One woman built a gorgeous display ROOM onto her house to accomadate the bass and her other Moodies stuff. The best part? Her name is Joan Fender. I swear to ya!!!

Steve and all...it's a pleasure to be here! I'm also incredibly jealous that you guys got to visit the factory. I've considered heading out, but it's a really long walk!

I've found that the biggest problem with being a Music Man dealer is that I want every bass that comes through the door. I've got it REALLY bad for a Sting Ray 5 in Vintage Burst that just arrived. It talks to me from across the room and forces me to pick it up---people are beginning to talk!

I completely understand.

Now get to posting down in the bass section, Rich!

As a new Newbie, I figured I may as well introduce myself. I am primarily an upright bass player. I have a 5 string fretless that was custom made for me almost 20 yrs ago but haven't really played it much.

I have been reading about the MM basses on the DudePit and thought I'd like to check out a Stingray (I remember a guy having one around 1981 and it sounded pretty good). So off I went to GC to see if they had any. Well, they had a couple of Rays and a Bongo 4HH (Black Sapphire). I tried the Ray and thought it was fine but figured I'd give the Bongo a try (even though I did not like the looks). Well, the Bongo sounded great. I decided to buy it. There was some damage on the headstock (paint scaped off) and they're ordering a new one for me to exchange when it comes in.

I've had it for a few days now and it's starting to look good to me (it could be late).

I need to figure out how to set this up correctly as I'm getting some serious buzzing on the frets.

Anyway, I'm enjoying reading the forum.

I just bought a Bongo 4 HH manufactured March 05 from the local music store. After 40 years of guitar, and 9 years playing drums, I started playing bass last year in the church band, and after a year playing a ten year old Godin Acoustibass with Thomastik Acousticore strings, I wanted a top of the line Fender Jazz with the QMT and noiseless pickups. Was blown away by the sound and playability of a pearl blue Bongo..everyone loves it!!!! So I'm now a newbie to EB and this forum. Next on my list is replace my Ampeg Rocketbass amp with the 2 x 10 Epifani cab and amp I saw at the same music store.

What strings come stock on the 4 string Bongo?

Thanks for the B'Day Greetings. I turned 55 this year. I'm not at all sure how that happened. I remember partying with gorgeous women, playing until 4 in the morning, doing tour dates for three months at a time and then, suddenly, I'm 55 and can barely stay awake until 10 pm. Is this limited to Geezer bass players or do the years snap by for others as well?
