The necks are shaped on a CNC machine.

I'm not doubting you - you have them right there - but there may be other factors involved.

Like - are you drunk?

10A.M???? I don't put such harsh time regulations on my drinking :D

As for the neck thing, get rid of the one that you find hard to play and it will never bother you again?

i have about 14 sr 4's

That's more than I have!!! :( ;) :D

It's always interesting to experience what small differences the human haptic sensors can detect. I've measured a couple of 'Ray necks because I had the same impression -- that the necks have different feel of "size" -- but found the measurements to be very close or identical (IOW, the measurements were either too coarse or too cursory).

I found that the feel is more consistent on newer necks than on older ones. And that necks with maple boards (even newer ones) feel "chunkier". Probably the surface of the wood, or how rolled the edges of the fretboard are, contributes to the feeling.

getting rid of that one the 92 rosewood which is the sharp edges one is probably what i will do, but the neck is si incredible , figured and the sound is
awesome, so it wont be easy to part with, i guess that definetly the older ones have much different neck profiles, the newer one are probably much more consistent, i dont have anything newer than a 94

When I was trying out a bunch a few ago before I bought one, all of the maples seemed thick while the rosewoods seemed thin. It was pure perception, the eye is easily tricked and the brain follows, making it reality.

I bought a rosewood, but I'd bet my house that if properly measured, there would be little or no difference in thickness.

check the to see how the bass was set up. the measurements are all the same. but if the neck ajustment and the action is high or low. it can feel as if your playing a different bass. basses should get a pro set up twice a yaer. make sure you tell the guy how you like the bass set up. and most inportantly make sure he knows what he's doing.

I tried several new EBMM basses this weekend in a couple of stores and they all felt different, even some of the same model. Even the smallest differences can be felt on a neck and each one is individual.
