It's just a quick question, can u get a Sterling to growl, ne suggested settings. I'm finding it hard to do. Maybe it's cuz of my amp or my bass, cuz it's far lighter than a SR5. I've gotten a moderate Simba style growl, but I want it a little more. My amp is a WorkingMan's 15

Abd i know what ur thinking " go out and buy a Jazz bass" well, quite frankly, i like MM's better.

I own a Sterling and a G&L. The G&L growls more. I sometimes use a Fender showman head for extra growl.[yeah I know it's a guitar amp] generally I use solid state for bass amps, but use digital effects simulators for a variety of tube and cabinet sounds. Still the G&L growls more, either way.

Completely agree, I also own a G&L2500 and the growl it has is way up there. Reh=garding the MM growl, first of all get strings that are not too trebbly; try Foderas or DR Marcus Millers, they have an special midrange growl and also last a bit longer.
Depending on the amp you use, aim for the 140hz, they're the low mid frecuency that will give you definition that growl your're looking for. Set the Bass in series krank up the mids a bit, trebble flat and bass at around 2 o'clock (depending on the room). Remember that the growl a MM gives is different than the Jazz's; will be somewhat like the bass on Alanis Morrisette's you ought to know.
Have fun

Thanx fer th' string tip,Augusto. I currently use Thomisik-Infeild with good results, have found rotosounds to be way over-rated, not as loud or perhaps 'brite' as I'd want. Appologies to Ernie Ball for my personal string choice.:)

I actually used Ernie Ball strings once and didn't like them at all, maybe it was a faulty batch but they were very trebbly and lacked body:( . Pity I can't get the Thomastik strings locally, but there are a few good American brands around.
Cheers
