Help! Can you use polish to clean grime off hardware?

I recently got a brand new guitar, but it came with stuck on grime on the bridge and tuners, and I can't remove it with just a cloth. And I am looking to buy Ernie Ball 65 polish to clean the hardware. Would it work? Or is there another method?

I would start with something like acetone or alcohol first, then perhaps Goo Gone, or Naptha, or electronic contact cleaner. Try it on a small portion of the hardware first to make sure it does not damage the finish. Once you've done that wipe clean and finish with polish.
