For those of us who are Canuckleheads, we remember that one week ago was our Canada Day Celebrations (and for those of us who are a tad older, we may even recall when it was called Dominion Day....). Our band did a portion of a show in the park featuring music from the 50's to the 80's, and we did the last section just prior to the fireworks display starting. Following a great 50's-60's band, then a band featuring three gorgeous women and covering 70's material that included funk and disco hits, is not an easy task to do. We benefitted from the fact that the few thousand who had braved the cold (it was quite cold and windy that night) to see the fireworks became our captive audience!

Anyway, the boss and kids came down to see both the old guy play onstage and the fireworks, and a friend brought a videocamera. So, for your viewing pleasure, and almost certainly guaranteed to make you spit out your coffee (or bevvy of choice), here is the link:

I am playing my DD AL - for some reason I never seem to see any still shots of me with the AL, and those who provide pics for our website never seem to get pics of me playing anything by my Axis...odd. Well, here is animated proof that she gets out and gets played onstage.

Now the disclaimer:
1) yes, I know the jacket is a bit outrageous, but hey, we were doing the 80's thing,
2) yes, I know the lead solo has a few wandering notes, but damnitall, if they had only played a 7th behind me it would have been great...
3) yes, I know the audio is a bit wonky - the camera was basically directly in front of the stacks,
4) the DD AL plays as great as it looks - but then you gals and guys knew that already....

Enjoy, and have a laugh on me!

Hey Grumpy,

Now I know what David Lee Roth does on weekends!

Nice of you to post this up - despite the videocam capture quality, your AL sounds great. What's your setup?

Salut!

Jbert de Montreal.

Great stuff John!

I remember when it was called Dominion Day.

The Dargie looks great! I especially love the jacket!
Please admit that you like to wear it around the house too and not just on stage. ;)

Hi Jbert

Merci beaucoup!

I play a Line6 Flextone III XL which allows me to get as many different tones as we need to get through the night - I need to go from crystal clean (as you can hear in the rhythm section of the song) to heavy overdrive for lots of material, and that amp just seems to handle whatever I can throw at it. A bit of knob-fiddling is required to get "just the right" sound, but it's worth it - my amp sounds great with all my EBMMs!

(and speaking of DLR - we do "Jump" nightly in our show, but the videocam wasn't on for that one...)

Thanks to all for the kind comments - it was a lot of fun to do that show, and we also did a similar one this past Saturday for the Mackinac race (Brentrocks and Foggy should probably know what I am talking about there...) with a better turnout and slightly warmer temperatures. A lot of people the band knows were taking pics, so I should have some to post here soon - hopefully a still pic or two of me with the DD AL (I just don't know why it doesn't appear in pics??? Maybe it has a "stealth mode"?).

Great to see you play your DD AL!

Thanks Rob, she gets played at every show now, and is creeping up to 30% of the playing time per night. Who needs anything other than an EB??? My "other" brand guitars never see the light of day now!
